Why would an oatmeal stout not keep well? Sounds like they're feeding you a line of bullshit. Great Lakes in Cleveland has a pub exclusive porter with Belgian chocolate and raspberry that I buy several growlers of every year and have saved some for well over a year with no issues. If you have the option, pay a few extra bucks for a swing top instead of the shitty screw on caps; they will last forever.

1/2 way on my second glass. While good, I don't think I could stomach more. Too gingery for my liking. Not as bad as Shorts Ginger brew though. For a $6 24oz. I think I'll stick with Sam Adam's Double Bock which was amazing.

That's how I felt the first time having this. I think its just too heavy of a taste, a bit overbearing

The only reasoning I can find behind this would be if they're pouring their oatmeal stout off a nitro faucet. If that's the case it'd be true, That'd fall off reeeal quick after the fill and just be a flat mess.

I believe this may be the ccase.Pouring it from the growler the next day it was quite flat. We just drank it that night instead.

Duck Rabbit really needs to nitro their Milk Stout. That is the single reason I like Left Hand's Milk Stout better. The small bubbles of the nitro adds another element of creaminess on top of everything that just pairs so well to Milk Stouts that I think pretty much every Milk Stout can be improved significantly by it.

I'll be honest, I'm pretty new to the milk stouts as I wasn't ever sure about trying one. My lady has mentioned Left Hand's before, I'll give it a go for sure.

Ah! Normally I get a 32 or 64oz filled on my way home on Mondays, normally it is hard to get me to fill it with anything other than Boneyard's Hop Venom IIPA... but this is on tap today and if they fill 32s I may have to snag it instead.

Burnside Brewery - Hot Chocolate Stout
A chocolate and habenero chile infused ale crafted in collaboration with local artisan woodblock chocolates. This "bean to beer project" is a blend of cocoa nibs from Madagascar, Ecuador and Trinidad. 10 gallons of semi sweet chocolate was poured into the kettle warm and freshly blended after an addition of ten pounds of nibs was infused with the mash. We then conditioned the beer on slightly roasted habenero peppers to create a delicate balance of cocoa and spice. You will experience a hint of heat finishing with a distinct cocoa flavor.
abv: 6.1% ibu's: 42

I keep looking for the Left Hand Milk Stout here in Oregon. I am shocked to be unable to find it.

I did try Worthy's Lights Out Stout recently and found it to be pretty damn good.

Man spent like 30 minutes in our market looking for left hand milk stout with no luck. Dude said might have gotten cleaned out on new years. Went with Allagash Tripel again and Thirsty Dog "Siberian Night" it's pretty damn good. Was really wanting to try that left hand out though. /bummed.

The had no Hot Chocolate Stout last night, so I went with the Split Shot Espresso Milk Stout by Elysian Brewing Company and a Racer X Double IPA from Bear Republic. Neither were awful, the stout was actually pretty good. The Racer X was actually much less impressive to me than their Cafe 15 Racer was. Racer X just didn't do anything special for me, just a pretty bitter double IPA and while I was expecting it to be much more citrus up front... it was all malt and pine. When it comes to double IPAs I definitely lean towards the more citrus varieties.

It's a shame that Left Hand won't share or patent their technology behind their Nitro bottles, I agree that Duck Rabbits would benefit greatly from it.

Racer 5 is pretty citrus, It just has to be super fresh. One of the IPA where the flavor goes complete malt and bitter pine after a few days.

That is semi-good, because I forgot to mention that you have to give the Left Hand Nitro a proper hard poor in a glass that is large enough to hold it. In my experience, American pint glasses will just barely hold it without spilling over during a hard pour if you're lucky, but if you have an English pint glass, or really just a glass larger than an American pint glass, then you're good on just turning the bottle upside down and watching the magic.

I went to Elysian's brewpub while I was in Seattle this past summer. I had their Spacedust from the cask which was quite tasty. Also had their Loser Pale Ale, Superfuzz Blood Orange, and Immortal IPA. All were decent beers, but nothing mind blowing. I had heard whispers of a Diprohopus Double IPA that was exceptional, but they did not have it when I went. Not sure if it is a special brew.

Loser and Immortal are their standard fare. Even Dragonstooth can be a bit mainline-blase now and then. It is indeed the seasonals and specials that get the attention, and most NW brewers are like that. Old Ras is the crazy inversion, a mainline that rides high on BA while you never see the rest of North Coast anywhere.

Brewdog makes VERY solid beers, as does Mikkeller. A collaboration by both of them? Wish I could find me a bottle I wouldn't be surprised if that single 8.5oz bottle set you back $20+, too. My only concern with those very high alcohol beers is just how fucking heavy they have to be, otherwise they taste so much of alcohol that it sometimes ruins the beer. That stout is just begging to be waxed and aged, and I'm very surprised that it doesn't come waxed

Regarding the % and heaviness I agree. For me, majority of beers under 6% taste light, but I've noticed that anything 10%+ for me just seems too much now. A buddy bought a bottle of Double Bastard Ale and I didn't even want to finish my portion of it. 7.5% seems to be my sweet spot.
