Had the Nitro last night. Nice stout, definitely one of the better ones that I've had. Still an IPA fan, though. Stouts just don't do it for me.
Booked a room for Savor. Definitely going to try my best to get over there.
Definitely looking forward to Savor as I've stated before although I may try to hit up Founder's Fest this June.
I don't know your area so I can't speak to distribution but if you can find it, Long Trail brewery's Limbo IPA is shockingly delicious. Didn't expect it from their brewery but the new Zealand hops and the citra balance is really nice.
I had picked up two cases from the brewery when I was up in Vermont between Christmas and New Years. They are literally 10 minutes down the road from the house I've been renting the past couple years.
It was very good and most of my friends weren't drinking it at all which meant I had 12 left to bring home with me. I can usually find Long Trail pretty easily in NYC, but I have not noticed Limbo in the stores nearby.
I'm still waiting for The Alchemist to open up their new brewpub/distribution center so I can snag some Heady Topper.
Oh cool i havent been there ill have to check it out!
Just got back from the local market that just renovated. They got even more new stock in, including some stuff I haven't had before. Picked up another 6 of the Nitro Milk Stout. I also grabbed Bell's Hopslam, Ballast Point Sculpin, Firestone Walker Double Jack, and a couple Ommegang bombers.
They have a good amount of Bell's stuff, some more Ballast Point, the full line of Ommegang, Firestone Walker, Anchor Steam, Dogfish Head, and some NY state breweries I have not tried yet.
I'll have to take a picture and have you guys help me choose some stuff to try.
Consider yourself lucky to still find Hopslam. The majority of places around here have people waiting on the distributor to bring it to the store, and the store will normally sell out in the first hour or two of getting their shipment in.
The store has 3 cases. I was thinking of getting a while case. They're selling it for 17.99 per 6 pack.
I blew threw my allotment of Hopslam this year, 10 cases in less than 3 hours and I'm not in a highly populated area.
Also preach, I cannot wait for my hunting for Heady to get easiser. Not that I don't love driving around that beautiful land of Vermont.
Also in terms of beer that should get some hype, With spring coming up I cannot wait for Allagash Saison bottles to hit. I've been loving it on draft at my store despite the weather being typical NY bull.
This thread is weird if you live in the old world.
I need to start going gluten free because I'm pretty sure I'm at least sensitive to gluten. New Harvest has a 6.8% Belgian Ale. Went to my local store that their site said carried it. No dice. Went with a 4 pack of Dark Horse Perkulator Doppelbock.
Had the New Harvest ordered and drinking one now. Do not like. It's got a real weird taste on the front and almost tastes like flat ginger ale on the back end. I tried Omission Pale Ale and that wasn't bad, but it's 5.6% and sort of felt empty![]()
Gluten Free varies. If you're in California, Alpine Brewery uses a new strand of yeast that produce significantly slower gluten rates or something. I read an article about it, Was quite interesting.
Normally around stuff it'd be pretty region dependant. New York we have Steadfast and New Planet which isn't bad at all. I tend to stay away from Sorghum based GF beers as I find they have a really odd flavor.
Or I just drink a delicious cider instead.
Also Left Hand just rolled out 2 new beers in their "Nitro" series; Wake up Dead Russian Imperial Stout and Sawtooth Ale Nitro and they are unbelievably drinkable. The malt and balance with roast and creaminess on Wake Up Dead is fantastic and the Sawtooth just becomes a mellowed out fantastic drinking beer. Top notch!
Gluten Free is rough, I've tried several and haven't found a single one i enjoyed. If you go with cider, I'd say avoid Woodchuck, way too sweet. Angry Orchard and Samuel Smith both make good cider, but I can never drink more than 2 in a sitting without a stomach ache.
Side note, super butthurt as I just missed out on a case of Flying Dog Kujo imperial coffee stout. Stuff if fantastic if you can get hold of it, as is most of Flying Dog's stuff. I did pick up some Dragon's Milk from New Holland Brewing, which is pretty great. Definitely worth a try if you like Bourbon Barrel stuff.
the belgium stuff is New Planet. Not sure where I got New Harvest from! The initial taste reminds me almost of a wine, which I can't stand wine. I guess if I'd like to drink for taste I'll have to prepare for my gut to hurt afterwords, or stick with low% gluten free because this stuff sucks. If anyone has any suggestions on a gluten free higher % brew that would be great! Also, is there even a porter/stout that's gluten free? I haven't looked, but I'm doubting it. About to enjoy some Atwater Winter Bock >.>
