6 months and not a single beer post?! Turrble! Anyways, I'm glad the shelves are getting stocked with more porters and stouts for the winter season here in Michigan(sorry IPA nuts!). I recently went to a beer house and tasted many different beers. Had a usual Dark Horse Scotty Karate (drinking one now actually!) and some other fine beers. The one that stood out was Bells Third Coast Old Ale. Very good and strong. Draft was $7 for a pint which I thought was reasonable. In store, $17+tax/deposit for a sixer though!

Yes, the Natty Daddy. I did it! 8% at a dollar! I split a few with a buddy and we both agreed it tasted a bit like Moscato. Not bad for a beer to have after you've had 3-4 quality beers. Thing is, for me something weird happened recently and I don't know what caused it. I do take anti anxiety medication so I do have to watch how much I drink. Usually, 4-5 beer of 7.5%+ and I'm fine. But one night I had 2 Gargle Blasters (8.4%) and 1 can (24oz) of Natty Daddy (8%). Straight blacked out. Wife said I was acting like a retard. Didn't know how I got to bed! Again, Turrble!!

Thing is, I recently lost my job so I need to keep the spending to a minimum. I was thinking of switching to a decent liquor to offset costs, but I have no idea how that will react to my medication. Can anyone give feedback on liquor+meds? Or any suggestions would be awesome!

Bought a 6-pack of Mosaic Promise earlier this week. A really great fresh hops smell and taste.

My local market hasn't started getting the stouts in yet. Still waiting for their batch of Breakfast Stout to come in, they sell them in 4s for 6.99! Still have 2 left in the fridge I've been saving along with 4 or 5 KBS. Will probably open another KBS this coming week, going to be a cold one in NY.

I'm going to Killington between Christmas and New Years for 7 days and am planning a Heady Topper finding day. Anyone live up around their cannery/distributors or know a good place to go? I see on their website they have delivery days as well as if they sell cases, but was wondering how mobbed these places get.

My parents were traveling through Michigan last month and I was hoping to have them pick up some Mosaic Promise. Unfortunately, they left the day before the brewery would sell. It was only released in Michigan, Chicago, and New York as far as I know, so no chance of seeing it down here in Texas. I did get two 4-packs of Breakfast Stout down here, but I doubt any KBS will be distributed to this market.

i haven't been personally, but my brother went on the hunt for headys earlier in the year. the lines stretch out the door, it's no joke. if you want to grab a case, show up early.

i'd say it's worth it, but i also didn't have to endure the ordeal of actually waiting around and haggling to try and buy more than whatever the stated maximum was, so your mileage may vary. definitely a top-tier brew though, no question about that.

also, dear lord at breakfast stouts for $7. $12-13 is the standard here (MA), if i could get them that cheap i'd probably give up on drinking other fluids entirely

That's pretty much what I figured the case is. My cousins went one time, but they went to the cannery as opposed to the distributors. I get up at 5:30 every morning so getting out early is no problem for me,plus we're there to ski/snowboard so everyone else is up early too. Might see if I can recruit another friend or the fiancee to come with me to try to snag two cases.

My local market is weird. They have really good prices on some things, and really awful prices on others, or at least what I perceive as awful. They used to sell Ommegang's Wild at Heart for $12. I think I bought every bottle they had over the course of a few months. They stocked more and marked it up to 17.99/bottle. Needless to say they are still there months later. It's a good beer though. Was my intro to American Wilds which I've really come to like.

Don't waste your time going to the cannery, John and co have had to close it to the public quite a while ago now. Your best bet in terms of scoring a case would be Winooski Beverage on a Thursday morning or in Burlington on the delivery days listed on their website.

Scoring Heady is no easy task anymore these days unfortunately. Oh and anyway you try to get it will be difficult, The crowds snatch it up right quick. Best I can say is hit Winooski and if you strike out head over to Lost Nation brewing and eat some food and drink some Belgium styles.

The DuClaw is the only new one for me. Moved to NJ and I'm really missing all the breweries in the Raleigh, NC area, but I'm hoping to be able to pick up Goose Island's Bourbon County line, which is usually sold out before they open the shipping box in NC, if you can even find it.

I have had other stuff by them and while not bad, they never struck me as distinguishing in any way. I'll have to pick one of those up the next time I see it. Harpoon was easy to find in NC so it should be even easier here, but who knows

Winter is really the only time to drink anything from Harpoon. Chocolate Stout and Winter Warmer are both dope, though.

Went to Frankenmuth (Michigan's X-mas land!) last week for the first time. Tried their Christmas beer and wasn't impressed. Would rather have 4 Elf by Dark Horse. Picked up a 4 pack of Thirsty Dog Siberian Night Imperial Stout for only $9.99. Was a fantastic beer. I haven't seen it in a store in Jackson. Would recommend to pick up at the right price.

The Siberian Night is fantastic stuff at a bargain price. A little more pricy but the Bourbon Barrel aged version of it adds a fantastic depth of flavor to the base. Definitely recommended if you can track it.

Tonight's another 20 degree night so I dipped into the cellar for a bottle of Prairie Bomb! Stout. Great coffee notes with just a hint of peppers.

lol, but seriously, wheat beers are my absolute least favorite type of beer, and most verge on completely unpalatable for me. That being said, one of my favorite types of beer is the Grodziskie, or Grätzer. It's made using specific noble hops and 100% oak smoked wheat. Brewed one of these myself during summer after trying a bottle of Mystery Brewing's traditional take on this beer:

It's not an often-brewed beer for some reason, and most that do brew it cut the grains with some barley to bring consistency in the mash (wheat is very glutenous and all wheat beers are usually only a % of actual wheat for flavor).

The Grodziskie is most likely one of my all-time favorite styles, and if you can find any, or if you brew, then I HIGHLY recommend drinking/brewing it.

I actually tried a new (to me) wheat beer last night called Naked Nun. It was pretty good, but it emphasized the spices more that the fruit tastes, which is opposite of what I prefer. My favorite wheat beer is probably Allagash White.

Tried the new Robert Earl Keen Honey Pils and would not recommend it unless it was dirt cheap. It had no real taste at all and I didn't taste any honey flavors at all.

Finished the night with Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. First time I'd seen it down here in Texas and I really enjoyed it. The barrel aging isn't overpowering, just seems to add a nice vanilla taste to the ale. Unfortunately, I had three pints before I looked it up on my phone. At 8.2% it gave me a bit more of a kick than I was expecting.

Wheat beers and their related styles are fantastic... In the summer, In the winter I need the heavier viscous brews like Barleywines stouts and porters. Although the Bells Winter Wheat is banging and I love the allagash house beer.

Gratzers are fantastic When done right. Did anyone get to try the Sixpoint interpretation was pretty awesome. As far as I'm concerned best gratzer on the market is the Dr. Fritz Briem bottles. Delicious.

Been mostly sipping on Founders Breakfast since its back in season and Bell's Double Cream Stout along with the Left Hand Nitro are my usual picks these days.

The company has decided that persuading 21- to 27-year-olds to grab a Bud is the best chance to stop the free-fall. After years of developing advertising and marketing that appeals to all ages, AB InBev plans to concentrate future Budweiser promotions exclusively on that age bracket.

That means it will not trot out the traditional Budweiser Clydesdales for this year’s holiday advertising. It means February’s Super Bowl ads will feature something more current than last year’s Fleetwood Mac. It means less baseball and more raves with DJ group Cash Cash.

The marketing push is accompanied by an effort to get Budweiser back on tap. Theory being: If Levi’s and Converse can end years of sales declines by winning over young consumers, so can Bud.

“This is a very considered, long-term view of what will turn around the brand,” said Brian Perkins, AB InBev’s vice president of marketing, Budweiser.

I didn't realize it was a high-demand beer, but yeah I've had it. It's a good beer, but I didn't know it was a "sell out" beer.
