So, this Tuesday I was a poll worker for the primary elections. I know things might be different from state to state, but here's a tip for a marginal case, but will seriously improve your experience if you fall under it.
If you sign up for a vote by mail ballot, but decide not to use it and vote at your polling place on election day, DO NOT THROW IT AWAY. The precinct roster tracks who is issued VBMs, and you need to surrender the VBM materials to cast a normal ballot. (Otherwise, you have to cast a provisional ballot, which is a huge hassle, for you AND the workers)
If you happen to lose it, and thus know you'll need to cast a provisional, don't show up in the last fucking hour the polls are open. Shit's busy then. Do it earlier.
