It might be called a bad match due to the lack of goals but you can't really "get" football if goals scored is the only yardstick you measure matches by. Portugal has suffered a total of 3 goals in the last 18ish games they've played and Brazil have a scrappy and physically strong defense themselves, so it went about as expected, and the few opportunities created were technically brilliant. One of the most tense matches so far.

The game was not bad in that Portugal defense seemed good. But it was boring as fuck to watch. Not much penetration by Brazil, just good movement around Portugal defenders and Ronaldo being like 'hay guiz think I gots this one11!!!". Dude looks soooo lazy.

I agree, it really was that bad, you could tell portugal were completely concentrating on defense, they never never wanted to risk that counter, in the back of their minds it was never far fetched for CIV to get the goals they needed and portugal concede the goals they couldn't afford to.

To people from the USA: Has your view on football changed in general? Whenever I talked to an american a while back about it they'd be all "yeah noone here really cares", but you guys seem pretty excited about it. Grats on the win btw, definetly the best of the group. GL playing against the big boys.

The number is growing. Alot of hardcore fans already follow the sport year round. I think in another post someone mentioned if the USA is in a tournament, it will get a following and the popularity will rise but I can see the casual USA fan stop caring about it when tourney finishes/USA gets knocked out. Either way it's good overall for the game.

I don't get why so many people were so stoked for Brazil - Portugal today... I knew it would be a match where neither team wanted to screw up royally and it was.

Let's just hope Chile doesn't park the bus against Spain next, although that isn't really their style.

Also to whoever asked about Americans and futbol, they only give a shit when they're winning. Once they lose, they'll start bitching about how they hate the sport and it will all go back to normal. lol

Exactly, this is what I've been saying all along. Cesar is probably the best keeper Brazil has had in my generation and when Alex and Luisao are fringe center backs for your side, you know you're damn good defensively. Plus they have experienced holding midfielders with high workrates and they deploy tactics where Robinho doesn't have to trail back and defend (because he sucks at it) which allows him to stay energized for his runs and on the counter attack.
