That Sanchez looks promising, im betting he will get snapped up by a big club.
Anyone else noticed Chile's GK been using his hands outside of the box twice?
XD
Javi Martinez coming in for Spain, looks like Alonso was hurt.
Chi's defense is playing damn well, Spa can't do anything w/ one more player.
With the current results Spain will go through as group leader with Chile 2nd, the only way the Swiss can go through is with another Spanish goal AND a Swiss goal.
Anyone notice how the 6 second rule for GKs is basically ignored? Tiny detail, but it irks me when keeps hang on to the ball for 10-15 seconds before even thinking about dropping it/passing. Particularly when they're trying to kill time at the end of the game. I can see refs turning a blind eye during the rest of the match, but when you're in those final critical minutes, every second counts. Hell, I think it took, what, 9 seconds from the time Howard caught the ball to the time it hit the back of the net in the last US game.
I have no idea if it was an international rule or not, but there used to be a rule (traveling team leagues, middle/high school) about GKs not being allowed to take more than 4 steps while possessing the ball with their hands as well. It was finally abolished since keeps would run all around the box and never got called for it. Anyone have a similar rule to that growing up?
Oh well Viva España!!!!, and happy too because all 5 south american teams in round of 16, Tuesday Spain - Portugal !!!!!!.
Brazil is the oddball on this one. All FIFA games and European leagues use the 90 minute clock. If they were doing American style, they would start with 45 minutes each half and count down to 0. The MLS did this the first couple seasons, with the ref pausing the clock for injuries and some fouls, and the game ending as soon as the clock reached 0. Luckily the MLS realized they looked like idiots to the rest of the world, and now go by IFAB rules. Granted, IFAB rules do not specify a 90 minute clock, just that each half is 45 minutes, so Brazil is within the rules doing it their way also.
The 4 step rule was first introduced in the early 80s. As a defenseman myself back then we'd often position ourselves so the keeper could bounce the ball off us to gain more steps, or be close enough for a quick pass. In 85 or 86 they changed the rules so that the defenseman had to be outside the box before they could pass it back though. Then in the early 90s they made the pass back rule, so that a keeper could not pick up a ball that was passed in any fashion from a team mate. It was later adjusted that only foot passes or throw ins were considered back passes.
Around 2000 the 6 second rule was added. Then in 2002 the 4 steps was dropped.
Watching Brazilian football since you were little? Are you part Brazilian but live in America?
Did you know I was also gay?
