In before having two people watching a tv with replays just like any other fan but paying close attention is too expensive or kills the sport spirit...

If you're not sure, do you let the play go so it doesn't directly stop a goal, and then a minute or 2 later stop and go back? And, then what, replay those 2 minutes so you're actually in a 92 minute game but 2 of them didn't count (not the same as stoppage time, I hope I don't have to explain why).

Even a goal line call can have that kind of situation. Let's say before Donovan's big goal in group play, the ball looked like it may have crossed the line. Howard grabs it, throws it out, U.S. scores 10 seconds later.

What happens if the whistle gets blown and they stop to review, but they were wrong, and they should have allowed play to continue, but we never even know that goal would have happened?

This is a big hurdle and it's still an issue for the NFL. Many of the controversial goal calls don't have a stoppage in play. If it just skirts the goal line and the goalie gets it out by whatever means, then play likely won't stop.

I'm certainly not against instant replay. I wish it was used in more sports, but it's complicated and will certainly require many rule changes.

I remember reading about a microchip soccer ball experiment quite a few years ago. Something like that could help for borderline goal calls. I can't remember it being brought up again though, so it didn't seem to pan out.

I'm a little disappointed obviously but not majorly gutted. I think even if they had allowed Lampard's goal Germany prob would've still beat us anyway considering the way they played and the way we played. Glad I didn't give into the hype the media were building up, there's a fine line between hope and delusion, etc.

Incidents like this are going to keep happening for a very long time until proper technology is brought in to combat these kinds of errors. Oh well back to enjoying the rest of the World Cup!

Good referees are generally gay-looking, European with good build and can rule the game with charisma and overall authority. Since it is World Cup in question here, we've got several not-so-efficient ones out there from Africa, South America, Asia, etc.

I always thought they could use a wimbledon (maybe all tennis? i only watch wimbledon) type system, where throughout a game, you could have 1-3 opportunities to have a fourth official examine a replay to make a clear cut decision, the manager or captain could be the one incharge making the enquiries.

Obviously id say this should only be used in the World Cup and Continental Leauge/International Cups, as it would be so hard to govern, you could even say for each time a team uses the fourth offical it slaps an automatic 1-2minutes extra time on.

They need to sort it out and adapt a bit, especially after that disallowed goal decision and the likes of those australian players getting sent off.

Just thought though really, the more and more i watch soccer, the more and more i can't help but think its rife with corruption, some things are often too coincidental and seem possibly engineered.

I could be wrong, but the use of technology would surely put a strain on any fixture/score/whatever manipulation.

Idk, I was expecting more from the Dutch, didn't really have a high opinion of Slovakia. Hoping they can give Brazil a run for their money, since they really should be able to. Guess I'll take this as a personal victory since I'm half Dutch lol, only "cultural heritage" I have.

I agree with additional refs. If they don't want to use technology, they need an official on each side of the pitch whose only job is to worry about things inside the box. He would be the most important person on close offside calls, and on goal line calls. Since he doesn't have to leave the area, fast breaks won't have an adverse effect on calls. The official is already down there to watch everything going on.

Like in Baseball, it's not over until it the bottom of the 9th, yadda yadda yadda.
In Futbol, any PK's at the last few minutes (or seconds) of the 2nd half (or overtime) are the lifeline for teams struggling to tie/win the game (or at least ).

Anyway... I'm pulling for La Roja too, I'd love to see an upset :D
