He could have sent off about 5 players that match and broken up the play completely, but they let it flow as much as possible within reason. In the end he was given no choice but to send someone off. I think the officials are getting way too much stick honestly.

In the end he ruined the fucking game.

No call on the Robben break, no call on the handball on the free kick, and even gave a fucking goal kick for it...

Robben's break was vs 2 defenders, if Puyol had taken him out it would have been a Yellow since he was outside the box and there was another defender between Robben and the keeper.
He could have gone down after the tug or Puyol's sprawl/leg sweep but he didn't he kept going and pushed past the other defender until the keeper stopped him. If Robben had been in the box he would have gone down in a second.

If the ref had stopped play after he powered through Puyol Robben would have been in his face for not playing the advantage instead.

The "handball" was a deflection off the wall, but he was at fault for not calling the corner properly.

If the ref had been stricter and done the job you think he should have done the Karate Kid and van Bommel would likely have been sent off in the first half along with most of the Dutch side the way they were throwing themselves into tackles.

Lots of "what ifs" and "should haves" with the ref, the only people spot on were the linesmen.

It wasn't a "great game". Only one side was playing Football.

First off, the play was over within like 2 seconds, he could have called it easily without disrupting advantage.

A handball is a handball, it doesn't matter how it happens, although some refs give leeway for defending yourself.

If the ref had been stricter and done the job you think he should have done the Karate Kid and van Bommel would likely have been sent off in the first half along with most of the Dutch side the way they were throwing themselves into tackles.

Where did I say anything about being stricter?

Spain went out blatantly fishing for yellow cards, and when they didn't come the Dutch got more aggressive, and got the cards when they actually deserved them. There were *plenty* of plays made by Spain that would have been cards on the Dutch and weren't even called on them.

Lots of "what ifs" and "should haves with the ref", the only people spot on were the linesmen.

The linesmen blew the goal. Yes, he was onside during the final pass... but he was blatantly offsides for the pass that was deflected poorly. It's not suddenly not offsides if it's not a successful play, the goal happened because he was offsides in the first place, hence they blew the biggest call of the cup.


Even that I can accept, though, I'm just pissed because the play had absolutely no business happening in the first place, there should have been another free kick, and when that was missed it should have become a corner. As a direct result of 2 horribly blown calls and one understandably missed call, Spain won the World Cup.

That just fucking sucks.
