Im glad spain won, fuck the dutch, their game was horrible, one fault after another, so many cards and even making the less violent team in the wc get a little violent, thats just ugly, seriously.

I'd have a much easier time rooting for Spain if FIFA started sanctioning diving based on after-game replays, and doing it at like the federation level so it's not just a slap on the wrist of an unsporting player.

I'd have a much easier time rooting for the Dutch if they could figure out what sport they wanted to play.

But to me, that's what the award is about. It's the best of the best, hence the past winners from the big teams, Maradona Ronaldo Zidane etc. Underdogs always overachieve in the World Cup, it's what makes it exciting. But regardless of the team, and for me, either of those two midfielders fit the bill more. My original annoyance was the fact it was considered a "retarded" statement. When clearly the person saying that was just someone going with the status quo in the thread for someone who's scored some classy and important goals, don't get me wrong, I fully recognize his tournament was very successful.

It's personal opinion, but for me, I prefer to praise *either* of those two players for the 630mins+ of full dedication they put towards completely dominating their territory, breaking world cup records, and ultimately winning their country the world cup. How that can be seen as retarded is beyond me.

Because you're acting like they did it all themselves, where Forlan damn near did.

Look at it this way: trade him for *either one* of them.

What happens?

Uruguay doesn't even make the cup.

That logic doesn't really wash with me, the whole this guy for the other, what if's. Theoretical's isn't how football works. Forlan didn't "carry" Uruguay, he played very well. Just because an entire team plays well doesn't mean an individual in their squad isn't worthy of a top honour.

Seems it, ahh well. Eitherway the right team won in the end xD First Euro/WC double since France 98/2000. If I remember rightly Xavi got player of the tourney in 2008. That Barca defence/midfield must be ridiculous

You're just missing the point, it's not about them not being good enough, it's about him being too good not to get it.

Hell, Robben is a better player than Forlan, but in this cup Forlan was just absolutely ridiculous. Nobody has dominated his team's games the way Forlan did in a long, long time. Not since Maradona in 86 probably.
