Dumb soccer questions:

Is there a limit on the number of substitutions in a game? And once you're pulled, can you go back in? If the goalie gets a red card (or two yellows), I assume they can substitute another goaltender for a player currently on the field, or are they stuck without a goaltender?

Not sure how much sub rules change via age group and league, but in world cup 3 subs are allowed. They can sub in a goaltender for another player on the field to the best of my knowledge. Someone got last one!

Maximum of 3 substitutions can be made in a competitive game(in this competition you have all remaining 12 members of the squad to choose from).

Players taken off can't come back on.

If the keeper is sent off then typically a striker is substituted for a new keeper to come on, the team is permanently reduced to 10 men. If all 3 subs have already been used then one of the outfield players goes in goal. I've never seen an open net like you can have in hockey, youd be guarantedd to concede as soon as you lose possesion.

There is no difference between hitting with elbow to the face or to the torso, it is a card either way.

Pretty sure the issue was the guy grabbed his face in agony like he got hit there when it obviously was on the torso

This, basically. Was there anything nasty in Kaka basically walking into the guy? No, not really, it's the kind of collision which happens all the time between players. But for the player to go down clutching his face, rolling around in (imaginary) agony is a blatant attempt at trying to get the other man sent off. That is what I hate - same as when players mimic giving a card to someone after a foul, trying to get another player booked or sent off.
