Haha. I was on Kujata when I left. Demo died too much longer after that. I wasn't in it at it's peak, but still were an awesome linkshell at the time. I ended up going to Quetz.

I deleted my character that had like 4 years worth of progression once FFXIV was announced because i got fed up and bored with FFXI over time.

I recently started a new character though from scratch just to see how far i can go in a short amount of time, a test you can say. Also, it's to kill time i guess. I havn't done anything really crazy yet but i'm about to open up a whole can of hardcore! Fishing up Moat Carp was like torture and it was like a horrible way to get any gil at all but i had to endure it for a short time. I have access to Aht Urghan areas from turning in the six sub job items and it's opened a huge door already. I spent a few hours hiking through the past zones to get to sighn up for a nation and have easy access to the town through the maw. With my Sprinter's Shoes in hand i went and bought 14 stacks of pickaxes, hopped on the boat to Aht Urghan Whitegate, bought a few maps and made my way to Mount Zhaolm. I mined 2 days straight looking like a RMT and when i used up all 14 stacks of those pickaxes, i ended up with a Khroma Ore, stacks of Sulfur, Bomb Ash and 4 Adaman Ores. Now i'm going to sit back and enjoy leveling with a breath of fresh air, knowing that i'm financially secure for awhile. All those irritating as hell missions, quests, limit breaks and all that crap is on my mind constantly and i have no idea in hell how i will even accomplish that type of stuff and i have absolutely no faith that i even could accomplish it as nobody would want to help some random person like me with trivial things. I don't even think i can bring myself to shout for these things as i know that they'd be fruitless attempts. I'm not the type that asks for help, i always did a benefit/benefit scenario to accomplish things when i played. This is why it sucks for new players to start at this point because nobody needs the things that a new player would. Oh well, 4 months and i'm done regardless, maybe i'll give up sooner by throwing in the yellow towel of i don't give a fuck anymore. I hope someone enjoyed reading my little story here, lol. Maybe, just maybe though, if i'm successful. I might keep my character and continue playing FFXI for a much more longer time as i'm certainly interested in the level 99 cap and all the new content and stuff that's going to breathe fresh life into what was once my greatest passion.

I can only speak for two servers.

Bismarck is like easy mode. The players there are mostly casual / retarded and it's easy to be the best of anything there. It's difficult to accomplish anything, or get into a *good* linkshell.

Cerberus is fairly good. Shit gets done on this server. With some time and attentiveness, you'll find some smart / interesting players. There are a few big name retards that shout in whitegate a lot, etc, and there's a couple Linkshells which monopolize HNM's and snatch up all the greatest players.

Fenrir is extremely backwater and horribly behind the times, but with that being said there's some pretty decent social linkshells that do small events. If you're looking for endgame stay away from Fenrir; if you're looking for people to hang out with, ballista, or do small events then you may find a home here.
