UN Security Council & Saudi Arabia Gives Israel Green Light to Attack Iranian Nuke Sites

LONDON -- Saudi Arabia has conducted tests to stand down its air defenses to enable Israeli jets to make a bombing raid on Iran’s nuclear facilities, The Times of London reported Saturday.

In the week that the U.N. Security Council imposed a new round of sanctions on Tehran, defense sources in the Gulf say that Riyadh has agreed to allow Israel to use a narrow corridor of its airspace in the north of the country to shorten the distance for a bombing run on Iran. To ensure the Israeli bombers pass without hindrance, Riyadh has carried out tests to make certain its own jets are not scrambled and missile defense systems not activated. Once the Israelis are through, the kingdom’s air defenses will return to full alert.

“The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way,” said a U.S. defense source in the area. “They have already done tests to make sure their own jets aren’t scrambled and no one gets shot down. This has all been done with the agreement of the [U.S.] State Department.”

Sources in Saudi Arabia say it is common knowledge within defense circles in the kingdom that an arrangement is in place if Israel decides to launch the raid. Despite the tension between the two governments, they share a mutual loathing of the regime in Tehran and a common fear of Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “We all know this. We will let them [the Israelis] through and see nothing,” said one.

The four main targets for any raid on Iran would be the uranium enrichment facilities at Natanz and Qom, the gas storage development at Isfahan and the heavy-water reactor at Arak. Secondary targets include the lightwater reactor at Bushehr, which could produce weapons-grade plutonium when complete.

Oh lawd, anyone wonder how Russia and China will react to this? They didn't want to condemn North Korea for attacking South Korea...I'm pretty sure they'll be pissed at the USA and Israel for destroying 4 heavy-water reactors and 1 light-water reactors in Iran.

Iran has a pretty formidable Air Force too (52,000 active pilots), I'm sure they aren't going to just sit there and let this happen...even though their quantity of fighter combat jets are shit...

Are you talking to me or Kryssan?

If they attack the plants that doesn't mean there will be any leakage of radiation I think. Leakage requires some sort of chemical reaction right? Just like blowing up a nuclear bomb doesn't mean it sets off the nuclear reaction (you have to blow up the fuel tank of the rocket that the warhead is attached to). I'm wondering if any of these plants are the ones that are deep underground. Which would require some bombs that pack some heavy force(aka our own nukes)...

Notice my lack of explanation? How I typed only one sentence in response?

There was a reason for that.

This proposed action would not be the first time nuclear facilities have been attacked by military forces. How many people do you think would know or care that if I were to walk down the street and ask them for their opinion on what would happen when someone bombs a reactor?

They still need approval from the U.S. to fly over Iraq. OP left that out.

This will never happen, there are more reactors sites/facilities than Israel can bomb at the same time, all this would do would be set it back a few years and piss them off.

Actually there's only four main targets in Iran.

Regardless, the Obama Administration will never sign off in allowing this to happen.

Saudi Arabia (a paragon of human rights and liberty) is a US client. So this wouldn't be surprising (speaking Zio/etc.). That family dictatorship isn't going to last forever.

What are you guys talking about..."The US would never allow this to happen?" Are you kidding me? What exactly has possibly led you to that conclusion?

Also, Russian and China signed off on these latest sanctions, blowing up some reactors is not going to cause WWIII. You talk as if air strikes on targets like this haven't been done multiple times in the last few decades. Also, setting Iran's program back a few years would be an obvious winning situation. Regimes change, especially in the case of Iran where time might be all that is needed. Whoever said it in the other thread is right, you guys are taking war and the willingness of states to go to war far too lightly.

And lol@talking about Iran's Air Force.

Iran would get stomped. This is the entire point too. We'll play up Iran as Nazi Germany times over 9000 though.

actually it seems like for a somewhat less hawkish president than his predecessors, it makes a lot of sense for Obama to just let Israel attack Iran and not say anything. It lets the US have ultimate involvement in what happens to Iran (since I have a tough time believing Israel and Saudi Arabia have come to this conclusion without at least letting the US know about it) without getting his hands dirty. At least from a PR standpoint it seems like a win-win for all 3 parties.

All of this flies in the face of the fact that if a country really wants nukes, it's going to get them eventually. The best way to get another country to not get nukes, is to get rid of the reason for wanting them. So why would Iran want nukes, assuming they really do want them.

I think the easiest way to get nukes is to just get them and not tell everyone. Iran is kinda dumb in that regard, I guess... I mean if I want to buy pot I'm not gonna go screaming out of the windows of my car as I drive around.
