They rushed it out with new technology (blu-ray). Had they waited just a little longer it wouldn't suffer from the awful disc drive speeds. Then again, PS3 not coming out with the Blu-Ray may have caused the whole HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray shit to go in an entirely different direction.
Ok good to hear about the life span of the PS3, thanks.
The only other thing i would need someone to shed light on would be about the gig of the console. Im a much more dedicated gamer where ill play and entire game before touching another title. Do you think i would need a large amount of gig or will minimum be ok? Also what advantages does the amount of gig offer apart from storing data?
If you're the dedicated type, the minimum 120gb will do you fine, since odds are you'd be deleting the installation data when you finish a game.
No real advantage to a larger HD other than 'storing data' since that's all an HD is used for. ;/
If you meant other than game saves, well, there's always those games with the fucking huge patches, as well as PSN games. Otherwise, if you really want to, you could use the PS3 as a media player if you enjoy converting crap to work with whatever the system supports.
(usually easier to just host a media server and have it transcode on the fly)
Isn't there a 60GB PS3 too, or is that only is the original version not the slim? Is it worth paying the extra money for the slim version, surely it's just an appearance change, nothing to hardware?
Fourth Generation: NEC Turbo Graffix 16
Fifth Generation: Atari Jaguar/ Panasonic 3DO
Sixth Generation: Sega Dreamcast
Seventh Generation: 360
No, the Xbox360 is the first console that didn't have horrible sales. Notice Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Generation console companies no longer make consoles.
Back to the original poster, should you buy an Xbox360? Do you want to play Fable, Gears of War, Forza and Halo? Then yes. Otherwise your friends will eventually buy a PS3 at the next price drop. Right now, out of the box with the PS3 and 360 at the same price, the 360 isn't a very good deal.
Hope you all seen the E3 conference. Dun buy it wait, wait for the new one to come out in a week if you're intending on purchasing the console.
Wonder if I should sell my old elite and get this new model. ;/
A little upset that MS isn't doing some kind of upgrade program for previous owners considering the abysmal failure rate on these.
Would be cheaper than buying a 250gb HD and their wireless N adapter if you don't have either. >.>
I'd wait and see personally, thing could have a failure rate problem for all we know.
I'll probably wait for a price slash on the new SKU that came out before I bother picking one up.
Buy the new one

watch the video it's pretty funny.
When can I get my hands on the new one in stores? I looked around but didn't see any dates.
They're already in stock in NC, and locally here where I work in LA.
It looks like they're sold out everywhere around me. Should I worried about trying to get one soon? Any BestBuy, Gamestop, etc. employees here that have a little insight for me?
I'll post this here insted of where it was, as it's more applicable I think.
First off, just offering my opinion here. I've had a 360 since launch. Yes, I had 2 fail on me in my lifetime, but to be honest I played my 360 more than any system by 3-4x. I am a perfectly happy 360 owner. I never run into any problems with the live service, and don't mind paying for it. Nearly all of my friends are on 360 over PSN, so I am mostly on 360. You need to look at that as well. As far as exclusive games, I like both 360's and PS3 titles. I own both systems, and have an equal love for both of them. I'm not a fanboy in either direction. I'll buy em for whatever system might have the better "exclusive" content at first. GTA3 I bought for 360, Read Dead 360. Dead Space 2 I will get on PS3. It's all up to you. PS3 also functions as a great cheap blu ray player, which honestly MS suffers for a bit and hampers things for some devs with bigger games. I couldn't give 2 shits about changing a disc every 10 hours. OH MY GOD I MUST GET OFF MY ASS AND CHANGE A DISC. Who cares. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.
That being said...
I traded in my original 360 today with some stuff today and reserved the new 250 gb one. It was honestly a pretty decent bargain. They're running it for a short time (to my understanding anyway) I ended up paying $20 bucks for the new $299 system.
Here's a list of what I traded:
360 console + Controller - $125
2x Xbox Controllers - $27.50 each - $55
20 GB hard drive - $31
Network adapter (old white version) - $44 (paid 50 for it on BG)
Alan Wake - $28 (going for 31ish used online, 3 bucks no big deal)
Rock Band 2 - $8
So all in all I got $290.10 for everything. I had no need for the extra controllers, as I got them both for free, and have a fight pad and still an extra remaining. All this stuff online goes for around the same or cheaper. I get a new 360 out of it (I think mine was close to going), 230 gb HD upgrade, for $20. Not a bad deal IMO. I should note I used an edge card to get an extra 10% on trading in all the accesories + games
Also; I had to reserve mine, but they're getting them this week. I called 7 different gamestops within a few miles, and they were all sold out. You might just want to put the $50 down and reserve it if you go to Gamestop. Bes Buy might have them on the shelves, knowing them. Only reason I did it like I did was because of the good trade in.
