Kinda torn there, what with the Kovalchuk outcome and whatnot the league more or less has a pretty firm upper hand at the moment. I'd like to see things relatively even so players don't get boned, they're already paid much less than players in the other major North American professional sports leagues, but if they get greedy even with a lockout avoided, barring a fat new TV contract for the NHL which is a 50/50 bet right now that extra expense is going to get passed on directly to the fans in the form of upped ticket prices.

Sam Bradford almost makes more garunteed money (not counting the potential 36 million dollars more) per year than Sidney Crosby does.

Sid takes 8.7m a year.

Sam Bradford, who is a rookie and signed this contract never having put on an NFL uniform AND had a severe shoulder injury to his throwing arm during his senior year in college gets 50m garunteed over 6 years, or 8.33 mil a year. All he has to do to pass Sid in his "entry level" contract is earn 2.2 of the 36 mil bonuses.

Kovalchuk drama again

He seems to keep trying to make the NHL change the ideas of the contract, and the rumor is that if Kovalchuk continue to argue NHL will refuse any possible contract that he would do forcing him to go to the KHL

REPORT: KOVALCHUK'S AGENT SETS DEADLINE WITH NHL

It appears that a resolution to the Ilya Kovalchuk saga might be closer than many anticipated.

Yahoo!'s Dmitri Chesnokov is reporting that Kovalchuk's Russian agent, Yuri Nikolaev has set a 48-hour deadline with the NHL to resolve his client's contract issues or Kovalchuk will likely play elsewhere this season with the KHL being the most likely option. More calls between all parties are scheduled for the remainder of Thursday.

The Devils and Kovalchuk presented the framework for a new deal on Monday after the original 17-year, $102 million contract was rejected by the league, however once again the NHL did not allow the deal due to the length of the contract, leading to increased frustration in the Kovalchuk camp and thus the implementation of a deadline in the hopes of a quick resolution. Nikolaev stated that they had been in contact with SKA St. Petersburgh of the KHL but would not specify about the nature of those discussions.

Earlier this summer, Kovalchuk was reportedly offered a three-year, $42 million deal to sign with St. Petersburg, a team owned by league president Alexander Medvedev.

On Monday, Medvedev stated at the World Hockey Summit in Toronto that his offer to Kovalchuk was still on the table. Kovalchuk's agent said that his client would make a decision on the KHL by Friday. The KHL season opens September 8th.

The Devils are set to open their training camp on September 17th under new head coach John MacLean and would undoubtedly like to have their star sniper under contract by that time. The 27-year old Kovalchuk had 41 goals and 44 assists in 76 games last season split between the Devils and Atlanta Thrashers.

Soooooooooooo glad I'm not from Washington. Redskins suck, Wizards get suspended for guns in their lockers, Nationals just got royally screwed, Capitals don't make an effort in the postseason.

What stats you guys want by the way? Last year's? (G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP, SOG for Skaters, W, GAA, Save %, Shutouts for Goalies)?

I liked last the categories from last year. SHGs and SOs were kind of rare but it worked pretty well. I think 4 categories might be too much for 2-3 goalies compared to 7 for the rest of the team, but that just might be me.

Sounds good to me, though for the PIM category, do you get negative deductions for that? Kinda like how for fantasy football you can configure leagues to deduct a point if your running back fumbles or your qb throws a pick.

Of course this was gonna happen. What 22-year-old has been throwing 100 MPH his entire college career and never has a serious injury? The good news is TJ is pretty common now, recovery time is closer to 8-12 months and the original 12-16 and a lot of guys come back just as strong.

Also, I care about the Wizards, Redskins and Nationals about as much as you care about the Pirates.

The fantasy categories seem okay to me, personally not a fan of SHG or shutouts but it's all good.

Well, what if you draft players that are known for getting penalties but are very skilled? Dunno if I care for a PIM category then under that scoring format, but if the masses like it, no big deal either way. If that's the case I'll draft Carcillo lol.

ugh, that's why I always hate this section lol, is there a way to make it go off of the number of 5-minute penalties rather than just PIM? Just because some idiot like Burrows racks up 4 trips and slashes in a game doesn't really make him equal to someone like Shelley.

Awww fuck, it wants me to set the draft date now. Same as last year, Sunday night around 9-10pm EST? Obviously not EVERYONE is going to be able to agree on a unanimous 12/12 selection for draft time, some people may have to stay up a lil for it (it'll take ~60-90 minutes), some may have to let their spouse/etc know, but I'll give you guys a couple hours to answer before I select and proceed to create the league.
