Chinch... you can maybe be a fill-in if one of the remaining 4 teams sign up, but we're doing 14 team league (16 means there will be a massive goalie issue as each team has 2, 3 in 10-12 man leagues. Even 14 is pushing it.) So far 10 teams signed up, 4 have yet to respond.
Anywho, Kariya will be back the following year, he still isn't in retirement age yet, hes 35 only (surprisingly). I thought he was like Selanne pushing 40 but he'll be 36 at the beginning of next season so hopefully he can get healthy but this is the 2nd full season of his career he'll be shutdown for concussion issues so he might want to save his own future health-wise and just call-it-quits early. IDK though, that depends on a lot of stuff the fans don't see - his medical records and what his doctors are telling him, his personal finances, how much of his identity is typed up in being a hockey player, etc.
Edmonton might actually be a half decent team this year with Niemi, probably not playoffs but at least not dead last:
Top 2 lines:
Penner / Gagner / Hemsky
Taylor Hall (!) / Cogliano / Stortini
Defensemen:
Souray / Ryan Whitney
Kurtis Foster / Smid
They also have Eberle who is going to be a good player eventually, hes been tearing up the minors for a few years and was the 2010 WJC Most Valuable Player, maybe this is his year..
Anyways, Whitney (trade deadline I believe), Foster (Tampa Bay), and Taylor Hall all good steps in the right direction along with potentially Niemi also being a big plus and frankly Souray can't miss much more than he did last year.
