Pat Quinn has stepped down as Oilers coach. Tom Renney is taking over. Quinn is staying on as a "advisor"
Edit: Also Niedermayer is expected to announce his retirement in a few hours. Sucks, I would have liked to see him play for Canucks for one season
Boston wins that deal hands down.
Scott Niedermayer is retiring today as well.
Pat Quinn stepped down as Oilers head coach too.
I figured he'd stick around after the shitstorm to see how he could rebuild with the young players coming up. Eberle, Hall (Unless they take Seguin because they need a Centre), Pajarvi, Omark etc.
edit: Beaten to it. lawl
Agreed, Wideman had one good season riding Chara's best, and looked lost at times this year. Also this year's draft class isn't supposed to be too deep, so unless they strike gold with that pick I don't like the trade for Florida at all.
Also, stick tap to Niedermayer. Hall worthy, yea or nay? He never had eye-popping numbers but I say yes.
Unrelated, but I believe Blackhawks assistant coach John Torchetti is going to be announced as the new Thrashers head coach.
0 chance for McCarty and Maltby, One in a million for Draper.
Niedermayer has a good shot, he has pretty good numbers, 4 cups, 2 golds, a Conn Smythe and a Norris (the only reason Lidstrom didn't have 7 straight), also a member of the triple gold club. Might not get in his first year but should eventually.
edit: based on the class he'll have with him at this point he probably will
Washington/Montreal Game 1 is on NHLN atm, forgot how nuts this overtime was
I can see Niedermayer getting into the Hall. His numbers and achievements are there, not to mention his attitude throughout his entire playing career.
Woo, Habs locked Plekanec up for the next 6 years. $30m.![]()
Speaking of the Hall, Cammi Granato and Angela James are now the first two women ever inducted to the Hall.
Niedermayer press conference about to start on NHLN, they have one of his old school Ducks jerseys up in the room and it made me :3 hard
Wow lol, I didn't realize that he's won literally every international/north american championship outside of whatever the ECHL one is called, think he will in fact be making the Hall.
Cap will be up to 59.64 million next season, 2.84 above last season.
Also 2 more Wings (1 player, 1 builder) into the HHOF (even though Ciccarelli was only in Detroit for 4 years and left before they won a cup).
