Caps officially announce qualifying offers to nine players, including Fehr, Fleischmann and Schultz. Flash rejected a QO and then re-sgned after July 1st, so I'm guessing he'll do the same again, and if not them meh. Would really hate to lose Fehr or Schultz though.
Surprised they even want him lol, I thought he was going to get let go.
Interesting PD post: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...urn=nhl,252087
It seems Nabby falls short of the 35+ contract marker by 6 days, so he's readily available to have a super-exploitative contract that'll minimize his cap hit, provided the league doesn't shut it down.
I think it all depends on how Flash sees himself. If he's happy being a 3rd line wing on a very good team for around $1.5-2 million, the Caps would love to see him back. If he thinks he's a star worth $3 million+, see ya. Also I love how everywhere I look, he's listed as a center. He played there for about three weeks and it was a disaster, lol.
They won't be able to do that kind of thing because A: CBA doesn't allow massive cuts in a short span, B: Nabby probably won't take a contract that pays him diddly for a few years unless it is 4-5+ years, and C: They can sign him to a decent paying deal without it tapering off too steeply because they don't have to worry as much about the whole retirement/cap hit staying on the books deal as long as they sign it soonish.
ONE SENTENCE
2010-11 $8m
2011-12 $8m
2012-13 $6m
2013-14 $1m
2014-15 $1m
2015-16 $1m
2016-17 $1m
4.3M cap hit, why wouldn't this work again?
02.28.10, Where were you? You gotta shoot son, you gotta shoot.
That is awesome. Needs less people jumping and more people dumping beer on their head like dude around 8:20.
They had some pretty nice videos like that for the World Cup Donovan goal up.
The $6m -> $1m would be the problem there I believe. Salaries can't decay more than around 50% per year (I think the actual number is 45%), or if they do they have to be long enough that it isn't as much of an issue (Hossa is the only one I know of who has a salary that jumps as much, it goes 7.9 -> 4 -> 1, but it's also a 12 year deal with 7 of those years at 7.9m).
I think for a deal like that you would have to go 8 > 4 > 2 > 1 etc, but Nabokov probably would not agree to a deal like that.
edit: The purpose of this is so that teams DON'T just tack on years of nothing at the end of a contract to circumvent the cap.
I figure that that's the case, but I glanced through the CBA and didn't find anything regarding how much you can reduce a salary by percentage wise each year.

the link if you wanna look.
Yeah I know, I've been looking too, but I'm fairly sure there is some kind of regulation on it because it came up a lot after the Wings re-signed Zetterberg and were looking to give either Franzen or Hossa a long term deal.
It might just be that the NHLPA won't agree to the deal if it has a huge jump that looks like the team wants to pay the guy but keep the cap hit low and potentially offload him in the later years.
There isn't currently any sort of limit or regulation in the CBA, basically the NHL is trying to force regulation onto it but they don't technically have a legal standing to. In a way it's similar to this past season's hits to the head deal as well, they let a few huge ones go(Zetterberg's is the best example as I'm sure you know already), then tried to 'investigate' Hossa's after the fact and people were basically like 'yeah, right' about it.
I would definitely put money on limits for those types of deals being negotiated into the new CBA after this season, though.
Also since I haven't commented on it yet, the Wings draft was pretty standard. North Americans who might have some lower line potential, and some Euros who are under 6 feet and weigh 150 soaking wet, but have a ton of skill.
Goddamn tiny Europeans.
According to the twitter, Gonchar and the Penguins are not seeing eye to eye on a contract. He wants 4 years and to play in the olympics, they want 2 years.
If he walks how is the Penguins defense going to look?
about as good as it was when he was there

Defensively, addition by subtraction if Gonchar leaves...
Offensively... Pens PP is gonna be atrocious.
I don't see what all will change, Malkin will still park in his exact same spot @ the right circle without ever moving and one out of every 5 or 6 PPs someone will get it over to him for a lucky one-timer. Finding a guy who can skate as well as a 62 year-old or whatever Gonchar is shouldn't be that hard.
