Looks like Rod Brind'amour will be announcing his retirement at 230PM today.
Also, I never knew how freaking buff he is:

Probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever read:

Summation - Parents sue a hockey league because their kids didn't make the cut for a team.
A day late on this, but Stars announced that they won't offer Mike Modano another contract next season. Modano announced this morning that he is going to test the free agency market.
I am going to be very, VERY sad to see him skate in something other than a Stars jersey.
I was hoping he'd just retire, I got to watch the last Dallas home game and it was very moving, it'd be a shame to see him finish out elsewhere.
So, The Oilers trade O'Sullivan to the Coyotes for Jim Vandermeer.
The Coyotes will then buy out O'Sullivan.
Same. I'm still holding out hope that he will retire eventually. He said today that he still feels like he can play, but yesterday Nieuwendyk also alluded to the fact the Mo didn't seem very happy being slotted as a 3rd-4th line center either. Honestly, I can't see anyone offering him a spot that isn't similar though.
I just hope he doesn't end up playing for Detroit. I know he's from Michigan, but I will seriously vomit.
Rangers need a #1 center...badly...oh god, the stars are aligning!![]()
Flyers re-sign Leighton 2-year / 3.1mil
Good raise for the guy. Lets hope the cup winning goal wasnt a sign of things to come.
As much respect as I have for the guy I don't want him on the Wings. Plus they're already deep as hell at center, with 5 centers already likely among the 16 regular forwards. Holland does like his old guys though, what with the rumor about resigning Maltby (bleh) going around earlier in the offseason.
edit: That said, I think it's pretty shitty that he doesn't get the chance to finish out his career with the team he has been with his whole life. Very few guys get the chance to do that nowadays, especially with a 20 year career. It's unfortunate if his unwillingness to accept a lower line spot may force him elsewhere.
I'm ok with the Leighton signing as long as they keep their options open for still signing Nabby/Ellis/Mason.

To go along with the Jason Werth look alike Leino and Hartnell during the playoffs would be sweet.
Its a shitty situation. Fans in Dallas are LIVID at Joe. "He's the face of the franchise, if he wants to keep playing you give him a contract till he's ready." Things like that
Now I'm not a huge fan of Niewy so far either (Krys Barch getting a 2 yr raise.. seriously?), but Joe made the right move here, and its not entirely his fault either. Modano would not have been happy on our team next year. First of all, we're going to suck. We're 14 million below the cap because of the owner situation and we can't upgrade our D. Modano would be playing losing games. He's already shown a tendency the past few years to float around 75% of his games, only getting motivated once ever 3-4 games or so. We don't need that kind of "leadership" for our young guys. He also clearly wants a #2C or #3C position. I don't think he's happy in the checking line center role either. Dallas has a good core of Centers already, we're not going to sacrifice Wandell or Benn's development only to have Mo give it his all half the time.
As much as I hate to see him go, if he wants to keep playing he needs to be with a winning team that will give him #2C minutes. I'd love to see him go to Washington, I feel the offense and winning level there would keep him engaged and he could get another shot at the cup.
Wonder what's going to come of Boucher now...
Dallas is making the right call. Not the one people like. But the correct one.
I'd just retire if I were him and not being resigned. That epic send-off that Dallas fans did for him would be enough to make me retire happy.
That'd also pull my heart strings to sign him for a few more years if I were Dallas's GM too, but whatev. Man tears hurt me.

wow, sounds like a steal to meThe Toronto Maple Leafs have obtained right-winger Kris Versteeg and the rights to left-winger Bill Sweatt from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forwards Viktor Stalberg, Chris DiDomenico and Philippe Paradis.[
Goodbye Versteeg, enjoy Toronto. Poor bastard.
Damn, he really grew on me at the end of the playoffs, him and Ladd are funny as shit together. This in addition to Huet getting buried in the minors or Europe means they actually have nearly $14 million in space to work with to get Niemi/Ladd/Hjalmarsson/Hendry re-signed and possibly play around in the free agent market.
