Damn, he really grew on me at the end of the playoffs, him and Ladd are funny as shit together. This in addition to Huet getting buried in the minors or Europe means they actually have nearly $14 million in space to work with to get Niemi/Ladd/Hjalmarsson/Hendry re-signed and possibly play around in the free agent market.

Huet is on the cap until at least training camp, so can't really play around in free agency until then, which is after any decent players are taken.

I don't really expect them to make any major moves since a lot of their stuff is kind of in-house, really they just need to find a couple of solid 3rd/4th line forwards and an extra D or two.

It would actually appear that so long as you are under the cap on the maximum number of contracts(50 including 2-way contracts) you can be over the dollar amount salary cap up until the start of the season as long as the books are cleared off before it starts, so they may be able to land a reasonable player or two before training camp after all. I expect them to go after another goalie at the least, I don't see Crawford being their #2 guy or he would have been up in the NHL over Niemi last year.

So far if they can keep their RFAs they'll be looking at something along these lines:

Kane/Toews/Brouwer
Hossa/Bolland/Sharp
Kopecky/Reasoner/Bickell
Ladd/???/Stalberg

Keith/Seabrook
Campbell/Hjalmarsson
Hendry/???

Not as good as last year for sure, but still pretty solid depending on how some of the younger guys bloom and how Hossa does with a full season to work.

Hamhuis and Volchenkov's asking prices just doubled with the Gonchar signing. That's a lot of money to pay for the guy who tanked it in a playoff elimination game.

Granted things can change during the actual season, but on paper Sens seem pretty meh for only having $9m of cap space left.
