You know, I've posted on these hockey forums quite a few times. I'm clearly a Flames fan and I try to be optimistic about the team and where it's heading. But seriously, WHAT THE FUCK?

Tanguay coming back, I'm okay with that. He had a really bad year with Tampa, but he managed to have his best year of his career point-wise with the Flames in 07/08.

Going for Savard or Spezza at the expense of dropping one of our heavy D-men contracts, more than happy with that. Dumping Kotalik, hoping he'll go to the KHL so that we don't have to bother paying his Salary, more than happy. Not resigning Higgins, dropping Dawes, I'm more or less indifferent.

But WHAT THE FUCK signing Jokinen? Seriously, I don't... I don't understand. The only plausible answer I can think of is that when Tangs first played with us, the major complaint was that he passed too much. And with Jokinen, he didn't pass enough. So a line of Tangs-Jokinen-Iggy where Tangs is the setup guy with 2 shooters. But that's only hopeful thinking for a probably very unlikely result.

Word I'm getting, and this can change in a heartbeat, is that if Ilya Kovalchuk is going to sign in Los Angeles, it will NOT happen tonight.

Others saying the Kovalchuk "overplayed his hand" and people are calling him on it, waiting for the price to fall.

Wonder if the Panthers ownership is a little antsy after seeing what the first year of Tallon aftermath looks like lol, thankfully we won with what we had put together and still have a bright future, but if we had reasonable contracts for Huet/Campbell and last year's qualifying offers had gotten out on time we'd be set for an instant dynasty.

All told so far free agency has been a bit surprising. Hamhuis going to Vancouver isn't terribly shocking considering all along he said he wanted to be closer to home. It's a shame the Pens wasted a 3rd rounder to find out that was true. Gonchar made the smart choice by signing with Ottawa. He now has a contract for the rest of his career and he will continue being the focal point of the powerplay. Ottawa has pretty much fucked itself with how much they are paying him, the length of time he's signed for, and the no trade clause. Like it or not, two years from now when he's creaking along Ottawa is stuck with him.

I'm not surprised Kovalchuk didn't sign today. It's a wise decision on his part. Play it out and see who offers the most money then jump on it. New Jersey surprised me with the signing of Volchenkov but after losing Martin they needed to beef up their defense. And they got the perfect guy to do it.

Jokinen going back to Calgary is a wtf moment to be sure. But Shero did a fantastic job not only signing one, but two of the top UFA defensemen available. Michalek and Martin are both in the prime of their respective careers. Sadly it means no more No Beatin Mark Eaton from Sepukku come playoff time. The Pens still have enough room to maneuver around trade deadline and during the season. San Jose going for Niittymaki is a bit odd but it's obvious Nabakov wasn't going to get them to the next level. Some good action today, let's hope it continues tomorrow.

No deal is imminent, and it remains to be seen what the Blue Jackets would send toward Vancouver to swing the deal. But left winger Nikita Filatov is a definite possibility, sources told The Dispatch.

So apparently the Kings have already tendered an offer to Kovy, and he is sleeping on it. Multi-year, etc.
