Why is this guy getting so much head? I never heard of him before free-agency started up.
Why is this guy getting so much head? I never heard of him before free-agency started up.
He's basically the 2nd-most prolific goal-scorer in the last 6 years, except he played for a shit team in a shit conference and, as a Russian, doesn't really do anything outside of scoring goals.
He's the most talented player to hit free agency in a long, long time. He's 27, so he's about to hit his prime. There has never been a player with his numbers (scored lots of goals that didn't mean anything) and at his age to hit free agency.
He is a good Russian player and wants a lot of money (this is nothing new). If he had signed somewhere quickly it would not have been gigantic news (big because he's the biggest name UFA this year, but not astronomical) but because he's dragged it out so long with ridiculous salary requirements it's become quite the spectacle. The most analogous player to you would probably be Kane, they're both good offensively and don't give a fuck defensively.
Also GM Place is now Rogers Arena.
Spoiler: show
Also Modano is in Detroit right now, had a meeting earlier, and is now at the Tigers game with Holland & Co. He gave an interview and reported than Modano was really only worried about what kind of role he would play on the team. I heard they got him to throw out the first pitch as well but can't find much about that.
They should bring back Chelios for a 3rd pairing defenseman too and with those two players skew the average age of the team up by 5 years.
Kinda old video but I hadn't seen it before. Ovechkin doing the robot is pretty amusing. This is what this thread is gonna be for the rest of the off season

Random hockey stuff go!
Modano announced earlier that he will either go with the Wings or retire, and it's all up to him now (apparently he's been offered the contract etc).
Guessing Modano will be a Wing in the next few days.
Going to be a shitty few days for Stars fans lol
On a somewhat related noted, I'm looking to go to one of the Stars games here in the NYC area when the season opens. Options are between the Islanders and the Devils. Might have to do the Islanders just because its on a Saturday in the end, but has anyone been to one or both of Nassau Colosseum or the Prudential Center and can give a opinion on which is a better arena to visit?
Nassau was voted the worst arena in sports, fwiw
I'd probably choose to go to Nassau just to say I went to the worst arena in the world, and then I would return to the CEC Arena and bask in its glory of being the best arena in the world.
Well, that and the Devils are zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Also happy birthday Cal
Old fuck goddamn 27, holy shit
Hey Kovie's 27 and he's going to get like $9m a year to play in Russia, it's never too late!
Nassau doesn't even have proper lighting... it looks like one's playing in a minor league arena, everythings so fucking dark.
You turd, 27? Your best years are behind you.
Pretty good deal for Washington, with what defensemen are getting this offseason. The Caps have re-signed restricted free agent Jeff Schultz, I'm told, and thus will avoid salary arbitration.
TSN.ca is reporting the deal is worth $11 million over four years for a $2.75 million per season average.
The team is expected to make a formal announcement this afternoon.
Schultz led the NHL in plus/minus last season with a plus-50 rating. The 24-year-old also racked up three goals and 20 assists in 73 games while skating alongside Mike Green.
Also, fuck you guys, I'm 29.
E: Oh yeah and happy birthday Calli. I'll get you a LeBron Bulls jersey.
