Rangers agree to terms with Frolov....doesn't say the terms of contract though.

I like the Frolov signing. Gives us another legitimate goal scorer, and further ensures Redden will be playing in Hartford!

Maybe Rangers will get more than like 4 goals out of their second line this year now.

When he feels like showing up.

Guy is very likable, he is GREAT down low protecting the puck but a lot of the time, he just holds it and cycles and never shoots it or passes it.

Will go either way, either he will break out or he will be the same, frustrating player to watch.

I'd put more fault on the Kings for dumping him on the third line half the time, granted Simmonds earned his jump up but you can dump a guy down the depth chart then complain that he loses 10-15 points from his last couple of seasons.

The main New York team in any sport is never going to be hurting for money for payroll. Besides, you can make a better argument asking how Toronto has sucked for nearly a decade now and still has a ton of money to spend because they still sell out all of their games.

Trust, he was given A LOT of chances. He played on the top line a lot, with Kopitar and still nothing. We went with Brown-Kopitar-Frolov for awhile and he still wasn't doing much.

People use the 3rd line thing a lot but when you look at the ice time, Frolov was 4th on the team in total ice time for forwards.

Played on the PP a lot as well too. Simmonds and Handzues aren't offensively challenged either.

Frolov was always able to get by when he wasnt scoring because he was strong on defense. Then he made a few very dumb plays on defense which lead to him being benched for a game and I think thats when we knew it was over here in LA, he didnt even seem to care about it or have any fire in him.

$3m for a 50+ point guy is a pretty decent deal still, there's a boatload of guys who are getting $3m this year that barely put up 40 at best.

I guess I don't know the whole Frolov package yet, seeing as how I'm reading about him more now than I have seen him actually play.

But I take it as an encouraging sign that he left a pretty significant KHL offer (4yr/20mil) to sign with the Rangers. Also it's good to see that he's got some good defensive sense. I'm going to be optimistic here, because he's still young and a real talent. But as an entire team we were maddeningly inconsistent last season. And if Frolov doesn't take well to coaches yelling at him he wont last here, I think the only players Tortorella didn't ream at some point last season were Lundqvist and Callahan.

Last year was the first year they missed the playoffs since the lockout.

"Can someone told me how the Canadiens havs a 3-0 on the flyers and still fucking lose"?

Also: I've been hoping for Frolov to sign, and I'm still waiting for Staal to re-sign.

Fucking BK back in the NHL thread, how does it work

Really like the signing, maybe a bit much just it's just one year, and like Oxy said he had a good offer from the KHL. Now you just need to fit Redden and Rozsival with cement sneakers and dump them in the Hudson.

Its a good signing, Rangers need secondary scoring bad. Rangers are pretty much in "wait a year or two for the kids" to develop mode, they have a lot of good kids in the pipeline. This signing means they don't have to rush someone up who's not ready.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised to see them sneak into the #7 spot if their offense picks it up a bit this year, and it should. MDZ has another year to improve, Gabby and Christianson and Prospal have a year more of chemistry, and Frolov will bring some more offense to the table. The defense and goaltending were always fine, so the few extra goals might bump them up a few spots.

They missed the playoffs by one goal, one would think replacing Olli and Redden alone should get them over the hump.

Talbot just can't stay out of this thread:

D.C. Sports Bog - Max Talbot calls Alex Ovechkin a douche

At 2:24 p.m. or thereabouts on Tuesday, the NHL sent out a press release about the league's "hottest rivalry." I think sports writers and the general public could normally be forgiven for casting a cynical eye at press-released claims of a hot hockey rivalry that are made in late July.

But in this case, a member of the Penguins -- one side of the rivalry -- had called the Capitals superstar "a real douche" on the radio four hours before the press release went out. Game on, press-release writers. Next time, though, please include slightly blue hygienic-product puns. I'd provide a few examples, but I'd rather not alarm the censors.

"I just hate the guy," Max Talbot told 105.9 The X on Tuesday as part of some Winter Classic press tours, when asked about Alex Ovechkin. "I can't lie. Sorry. Even moreso for a guy like Ovechkin. Like, seriously. Ok. Yeah. I don't like him."

There was lots of laughter through all of this, and the hosts were egging him on, saying "we agree completely" and "don't apologize" and the like. Then they asked Talbot when he realized that his dislike for Ovechkin extended beyond normal, competitive on-ice rivalry.

"The first time I met him, actually, when I met him off the ice," Talbot said. "You hear a lot of stories about a guy, but sometimes they're not true. You hear of guys who're not good guys, and you're like, 'Yeah, ok, I'll give the guy a shot.' The first time I met him, let's say he didn't give the best impression to me, so better reason to hate him even more."

It was the ripped jeans, wasn't it, Max? Or maybe the techno music? The cackling hosts asked Talbot what exactly happened at this first off-ice meeting.

"I was actually at the NHL Awards last summer with Malkin, and we brought the Stanley Cup over there after the season," Talbot said. "Malkin knew Ovechkin, and introduced me to him, and the first impression wasn't great. I'm not really gonna say what happened, but I'm like, 'Ok, this guy is a real douche.' "

(Note: Here is a short list of things guaranteed to make me break my vacation pledge to avoid the Internet: Confirmed jello wrestling between LaVar Arrington and Clinton Portis, the Dalai Lama making his first public remarks about Albert Haynesworth, and a Pittsburgh Penguin calling Alex Ovechkin a douche. That list may not be complete, but it's a start.)

After the interview, the cackling hosts wondered how "douche" would be translated in the inevitable Russian-language versions of this transcription. Funny, because I was wondering how you say "Brads, don't worry about it, let me take this one myself please," in Russian. Also "Five-Minute Major."
Real talk from a guy whose career high in goals is... 13.

He's got more cup rings than Ovechkin. So he's got that going for him.

What's the difference between Talbot and Ovechkin? Talbot ends up scoring twice in a Stanley Cup game 7, Ovechkin curls into the fetal position in the first round.

    zing!
