I'm up for fantasy hockey if theres a spot, pretty sure ESPN max is 10 from what I played with it past couple seasons so if we got enough overflow to start a 2nd league I'm down.

    ESPN is 10
    Yahoo is 12

Again, this is all preliminary. There's some people on my now-14 man list who rarely, if ever, post here and there's people from last season's league who won't be welcome cause they never logged in to actively manage their team. We all know who the core members of the BG hockey community are, and those who are not, and we'll take care of it in a month or so when its time to start getting things together. It would be really confusing having two leagues being discussed here at once, plus neither league would be completely full, it would be 8 and 6, or 8 and 8. While ESPN.com's IS better, Yahoo's isnt BAD, so I have no opposition to using Yahoo just so we can include as many people as possible.

Yahoo can be customized, I think I was in a 16-man league a couple years ago.

The more, the merrier, but as Sep mentioned if we go beyond 16, the goalie situation gets dicey.

PS. I'm off to Chicago tomorrow, which is the closest a Caps fan will come to the Cup AMIRITE?!?!?! If any Chicagoans are in Wrigleyville Saturday and see a bearded man in a Sosa jersey, it's me. :D

Yeah I'm more or less in the same boat. Long time lurker, finally registered in '05 and rarely post. I only do it really when I feel the need to say something. I didn't start posting in hockey threads until the Playoffs this year.

I'm pretty happy with how Detroit is shaping up this offseason. Assuming we stay healthy during the regular season, with the Hudler's return and Modano signing, we should do some really good things.

I'd look for you, but I'm totally avoiding Wrigleyville and anything to do with that "team." They are an embarassment lol, and Sosa still is sort of a sore subject around here.

Don't pay any attention to the people that may say something, they're an odd sort. Same people who thought he could do no wrong during the HR race with McGuire, but the moment he gets caught corking his bat, quitting on the team, and the alleged steriod use, they want to do nothing more than crucify him. Oh, us Cubs fans.

Fantasy hockey was a blast last year, I think I was one of the most active people in the league. I had never done it before and was horrible with my draft strategy (took too many homer picks) so I had to rebuild my team with people who came out of nowhere like Vrbata and Hornvquist. Was pretty awesome.

Definitely looking forward to doing it again this year with more knowledge of other teams and who's good and not lol.

I think most people took a ton of homer picks, I remember taking Zetterberg, Franzen, Filppula, Lidstrom, Ericsson, Williams, Cleary, Leino and I think a few others (I know I ended with Bertuzzi) but by the end most were gone. It was pretty horrifying watch Wings after Wings on my roster get injured though, moreso since they only give you 3 IR spots and I had Lucic too...

I'm surprised the league limits are so low though, I thought with 10 or whatever we had last year there were still quite a few decent players available as FAs throughout the season, I figured 16 or so would be max to hopefully make people look around for good 3rd liners to fill out a roster.

This is gonna be the first time I've ever done a fantasy league. I'm sure I'll make tons of homer picks just because I'm still probably the least educated/in the know, probably even over homegirl Isladar too. I only really know Eastern conference players just because they are the teams I usually watch, so I'm hoping the fantasy league will push my interest to actually following other teams.

That's basically the same reason I never do fantasy leagues. I only know Eastern Conference teams as well, and I don't think I'm well versed in fantasy sport strategy. I'd probley get romped lol.

I was the same way when I did last years pool. By the end of the year I knew a lot more players and I found it made me enjoy the playoffs more as I was able to appreciate the EC a lot more.

Some of my late picks in the draft were the worst homerish picks ever. I picked one guy that was sent to the AHL within 9 games of the season starting. lol

I tend to keep up on every team as far as knowing their better players, it also helps somewhat that my friends and I always random for teams when we play NHL, without homer team-picking you're forced to learn a lot more names.

The Gang Accuses Lou of Circumvention

Ken Holland: Alright, guys, we gotta do something about Lou. He's acting like a Goddamn maniac and frankly, I don't know how much longer I can take it.

Mike Gillis: I know, he's always been insane but he's been even more crazy lately.

Paul Holmgren: He's been drinking and smoking and getting around the salary cap and it's like, hey, why aren't you doing those things with me?

Ken: I mean, we've all circumvented the cap a little bit here and there but he's gone way overboard with this Kovalchuk contract.

Mike: Yeah, I think we may need to accuse him of circumvention.

Paul: I completely agree. It's like, circumvention? What does that even mean?

Ken: ...What? You know, I think we may need to talk to you about you circumventing grade school.

Mike: Yeah man, you've gotten REALLY DUMB lately. Besides, you know what circumvention is: it's what you tried to do with Pronger but you screwed up and now his contract counts no matter what.

Paul: Haha, OK, Pronger's contract counts no matter what... wait, is that true?

    Ken: You're an idiot.

Paul: That's not the point! The point is, Lou's circumventuating the cap. AND he won't play One Up Sather anymore.

    Mike: What's One Up Sather?

    Paul: ...It's a secret.

Mike: Is it? Because it sounds like you call Glenn Sather and tell him you one-upped his offer on a free agent so he'll overbid.

    Paul: WHO TOLD YOU???

Ken: Is that how you ended up with Danny Briere?

Paul: Screw you guys. S you in your A's, don't we-
    it continues, pretty funny adaptation

Kind of an update of sorts, I posted that shooting pad that I made, and I cleared out a bunch of room in the basement so that I could actually shoot at the wall. I can't really afford a net right now, as soon as I can I'm getting that folding EZGoal 2" steel net, but at the moment I need to basically find a way to pad the wall enough to make it so pucks lose their momentum when they hit it and don't ricochet off and break a lamp or something.

My initial idea was to duct tape a layer of cardboard boxes to the wall, then tape a layer of these old rugs we have over them, then I could use masking tape to make a little 4'x6' shape to shoot at. The boxes don't want to stay taped to the wall it seems though, it may just be the material of the wall but the tape doesn't seem to want to stick. Just wondering if anyone has set up anything at their own house or has some sort of degree in applied physics and/or taping-shit-to-other-shitology. And finding an old dryer is out, so don't try it.

Afinogenov signed a 5 year deal with St Petersberg of the KHL.
They're just stacking themselves with the unwanted NHL UFAs.

Wow, I really thought someone in the NHL would sign him eventually.
