Afinigenov is like that kid in the Mighty Ducks who knows how to skate really fast but doesn't really know anything besides that. Including how to stop.

I think also we should have a 3-pick homer limit this year. Callisto no more than 3 blackhawks, Thoronas no more than 3 Canucks, Me no more than 3 penguins, etc. Shit last year got out of hand and it extremely dilluted the quality of competition during the first couple of months (and all season for Ratahabs).

Don't worry, I'm never much of a homer to begin with when picking stuff like that, I really like learning about the rest of the players out there.

Speaking of being a homer, looks like the Hawks got Jordan Hendry signed for a 1-year, 600k deal. Their roster is more or less set with addition of one each, forward and defenseman, and they have about 2.5m~ of room to work with, less if you count them saving some room for injuries.

They can bring up Beach who has a 1.1m~ hit and another minimum-wage defenseman, or go the other way around with another cheap winger and a slightly better D. Jay McKee's still out there and he only made $800k last year, they can probably get him at that if not slightly less for a 1-year deal.

Man you hit the nail on the head with that one. Once Lindy Ruff made him start passing around, his production went way downhill.

Serious problem. Where's my Stone Cold .GIF? I need it for my fantasy team's name.

I only really know Eastern conference players just because they are the teams I usually watch, so I'm hoping the fantasy league will push my interest to actually following other teams.
Before last year I knew nothing about any team other than the Stars. By the end of last year my hockey knowledge in general tripled. Fantasy made me actually watch other games to see how my players were doing, and kept track of players on other teams. It really was a great learning experience.

Ironically Afinogenov was one of those players. Picked him up because his stats were decent and I needed to replace my horrible homer picks. Sad to see him go, he ws good last year. Also ended up doing stupid stuff like drafting Pascal LeClaire as my starting goalie. Thank god I knew Anderson would be decent from watching the Panthers the previous year, and ended up picking up some kids named Jimmy Howard and Tuuka Rask. Worked out nicely.

No need to worry about homer picks for me this year lol.

Speaking about watching other teams, just got off the phone with my buddy and one of the first things we talked about is that we're determined to find somewhere that has the Dallas home opener on TV to hang out at when it comes around, lol.

Interesting to see Afinogenov leave, he had a really good year last year for a contract year after getting a shitty contract because of his play the season prior to that. He would probably be a good value pickup in the 2-3m range for a lot of teams.

Also watching the Modano press conference right now, I'm so  right now. I'll laugh if the Wings and Hawks beat up on the Stars this year.

tbh I thought it was bigger news that they got Helm signed for 900k a year, that's a steal.

Helm has no hands so he isn't THAT amazing, but yeah he's probably worth a bit more than that (certainly worth more than Draper at this point and Draper is making 1.5m).

Also downgoesbrown is awesome, offseason winners and losers:
    Winners

Calgary Flames - Signed free agent Olli Jokinen, finally filling the "over-paid third line center" void created by the deadline day trading of Olli Jokinen.

Detroit Red Wings - Boosted their offensive depth chart with the signing of free agent center Mike Modano, who is presumably the son of that guy who was really good for the Minnesota North Stars back in the early 90s.

    Losers

Toronto Maple Leafs - Their savvy acquisition of Brett Ledba to fill the role of seventh defenseman was offset somewhat by the fact that their first-line center on opening night will also be Brett Lebda.

Chicago Blackhawks - Were forced to part ways with nine regulars due to the salary cap, and now face the daunting task of somehow defending their championship with only Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, Patrick Kane, Marion Hossa, Patrick Sharp, Brent Seabrook and a half-dozen other stars.

Boston Bruins - Short-sightedly drafted future franchise player Tyler Seguin with the top two pick acquired from Toronto, leaving virtually no room on roster for franchise players available with Toronto's top two pick in 2011.

And that is only a few of them!

Florida Panthers - Despite best efforts, have likely not done enough to satisfy the expectations of their die-hard fan.

I saw that list earlier and thought that it was really interesting that they put Datsyuk on there. I put Datsyuk on my team in the dream team thread earlier this summer and caught a lot of flak for it. Not saying that TSN's countdown is accurate by any means but interesting none the less.

The frozen screenshot of one of the two clips showed Bobby Orr at #2 and I was about to get really pissed Lemieux didn't make top two because no one else, Crosby, Ovechkin, and Bobby Orr included, are on 66/99's level, but I was tickled that they put Lemieux #1 cause I do believe he was the best to ever play the game just barely ahead of Gretzky (who wasn't traded, Callisto). I still discredit the entire list though for having Alexi Kovalev at like #4 WTF LOL

Fact. Super Mario was truly a great player. Dude had the stick skills and he was the size of an Ox. Not sure why the Sedin Twins aren't on here, maybe because 2 of them would occupy 2 spots. Lol.

It's sad to see Rick Nash sometimes as he's on such a horrible team. Dude has put some amazing goals into the net without any major help. I'm sure Eric Lindros cries a bit too as it's what he should and could have been. Lol.

if the list is based just on pure physical skill idk if I'd have him at 4 but all the shit I've seen of him doing stickhandling demonstrations have been absolutely sick, I'd definitely have Datsyuk ahead of him but not by a whole ton.
