I tend to feed the tripod on whatever decent level dry brand is on special at the time the old bag runs out - so it tends to hop between Iams and Purina stuff. I like James Wellbeloved but it's a faff to get hold of where I'm out and about so that's a rarity. I never go for the really cheap dried shit like Whiskas or Kitticat or whatever because I've found it's invariably thrown up in your shoes within about an hour after - and the cat refused to eat it half of the time. With that diet, apart from the missing leg which was not food related (more dog-related), she's always had zero health problems and is one of the best-conditioned cats the vet's come across.

As for litter - I don't know if you've got that pink coloured shit over there - don't get it. It ended up dying the furball's white socks on her paws pink for a good few days and pink paw prints on cream carpets... bedding... humans etc.

I was going to ask about litter. I have a new cat but i fucking hate litter. Its the worst smell ever. Just as bad as the shit and piss thats in it. Does such a litter exist where I will never smell it? Part of my problem is my hyper sense of smell and hearing. The cat box could be downstairs and in the laundry room... but I still can tell when the cat JUST took a dump by the hint of a smell... and i hate it.

Whats your budget. If you have over a hundred ready to pop, there are working automated litter box's (most include the granules) which does all the work.

As for natural litter, shit sucks. It can work to an extent, but never to the quality of a powder/carbon/litter brands like FreshStep (plus you're gonna have to clean it up regardless anyways afterwards).

For the smell, an easy way to remedy this is building a litterbox house. Or buying one.

Lastly if you want to rid of every other possible thing I've mentioned. Toilet training.

It DOES work but it requires effort on your part also, training the mind of your cat by slowly moving its litter box to a spare bathroom (don't do this in a bathroom that has frequent traffic, cats usually do better transferring to a toilet room that's not often used). After a few weeks the cats will adjust, even the hardest-headed ones.

But, like I already mentioned, it requires a deal of patience on your part. Along with showing the cat, and reassuring them.

my cat already shits right next to the toilet in his box. How do i manage to get that up there in the toilet? Keep the box on the toilet for a long time and eventually take it away?

They have little pans that you can put under the seat of the toilet, and then after a while you just take it out.
