oh dear, is this going to turn into another "Pld is bad" thread? ;( it's not that pld is bad it's that ffxi is too easy. the only things that are difficult in this game (AV, PW) are still tanked by plds, you guys are silly.

This is nothing, try having ls members that don't get the concept that accuracy increases your damage, and think that as long as they have attack and strength in every slot they have, they can't increase their DPS any higher than it currently is... I had a samurai that straight up told me that fang necklace was far superior to PCC >_>;

I've even been invited to a meripo that was 5xSAM RDM, I came as SAM. The other 4 SAMs all full timed wyvern helm. I tried explaining to them about how good the turban is, but they all told me that haste isn't important and that STR helps their attacks and WSs.

When you think about it though, it makes sense from the casual players perspective. In all of the other Final Fantasy games they have played, did you equip your character with Acc and Haste? Nope.

How did you make them stronger? By equipping +STR and +Attack items.

This is why you see SAMs that have the money to buy 2xFlame Rings and full time them, yet don't understand that +Acc in those slots would be a lot better.

Oh and I read about half of those screenshots and you were being really nice at first and they were acting like jerks. Like they knew everything and you were just an idiot. I usually give up on stuff like that pretty quick. As long as I'm not doing anything with them, people gimping themselves doesn't bother me.

Lots of pld are totally retarded. They got atonement but they still don't understand how important acc is. Obviously danielle's (or w/e the name was) idea of endgame was dynamis/limbus. Nothing else.
Would be fun to ask her what she thinks about nocturnus/avalon bodies on pld lmao.

you're obviously confused: pld/war can't cast utsusemi unless he has at least 4 finishing moves earned by touching ebon panels.

I guess I could have used DD gear on /WAR but I just quit while I was ahead <_<.

gear for accuracy and sword skill gear, this should be your secondary idle set. More accuracy means more Atonement and Chivalry even on HNM fights.

God I've tried explaining this to other PLDs before and they just look like deers in headlights. Dumbfounded.

I have a similar story to that one. An LSmate of mine came back from being gone for a couple months and was asked to go PLD in our last bastok run. Ordinarily the guy's on BLM so he didn't mind too much. About an hour into the run, I sent him a tell saying "ready to shoot yourself yet?" and he's like "nah, not just yet". Then towards the end he sends me a tell saying "ok just kill me now" or something to that effect.

You could get auto-Haste in FFIX IIRC and there were haste items in a few others so you could actually have haste and it was easily the best spell there.

Pld/war is not a terrible choice for Dynamis but you should only be using it for Tav/Xarc.

PLD is always a good job to have there, especially with Excal. Not every situation can support 2 sam or drk tanks, khim/tia etc. Late night camps or even plain bad luck can take non-plds out very fast, where as any sensible pld would be idling in a hybrid def/shield right after a thunderstrike/dread, and if hes quick (or using some sort of on-event), he can put in mdb as well. The plds you play with must be autistic, because theres no reason a pld cannot dd while also acting as a safety net that should never die.

Edit: and to clarify what i meant by after dread, i meant before shadows are up theres usually 0-2 swings while not terrored

If, outside of Sentinel, there is a detectable difference between the survivability of a paladin and a dark knight, its because one of them is a piss-poor player. There is one tanking job that has distinguishable superiority in durability over other jobs in this game, and its solely because of spells and job traits that neither PLD, DRK, or SAM possess.

Backwater, outdated, and illogical reasoning like this is a significant catalyst to situations like the OP's.

pld also has a shield, rampart, chivalry and a stun that doesn't give diminishing returns, it is indeed hard to believe that someone that's been on this forum for so long is a retard, but props tsuko.

ITT: Shield procs are a reliable form of damage mitigation.

If it's not going to consistently keep you on your feet, it's not worth mentioning in an argument of survivability when we're talking about mobs than can and will drop you in a few hits should something go wrong. Shield procs are a bonus for your healer, not something you should rely on to stay alive.

Either lack of shield procs will get you killed or you don't need a shield to survive. One or the other is true and neither situation makes PLD optimal. I work with PLD tanks from time to time, it's a solid option that's easy to rely on; that doesn't mean it's innately more durable than a DRK tank by any significant margin.
