Service on Norway's northern train line (Nordlandsbanen) wasn't expected to resume until Wednesday afternoon at the earliest, after a train collided with a moose and derailed.

NINA BERGLUND
The train, designed to carry loads of iron ore, derailed after it hit the moose on the tracks Monday evening.

"It must have been a monster moose," said Harry Korslund of the agency in charge of the rails, Jernbaneverket.

"It all depends, of couse, on how the train hit the moose, but in this case it was enough that it derailed."

The accident occurred between Dunderland and Mo i Rana. Passengers were being transported from Mo i Rana to Dunderland by bus in both directions.

Some trains from Mosjøen to Bodø were being replaced with busses along the entire route.

Railroad officials faced a major job clearing the rails and getting the trains back on track. Korslund said regular service wouldn't resume until Wednesday afternoon or evening.

Oh what the shit. Where I live (Luxembourg) I think there are no wild mooses anymore so I've never actually had the chance to see a live one...but that is just scary :D

PS: I come from a mythical "country" aswell...the land called Yurop haha

Here in America, we call it "Middle-Earth"

Mooses are huge and scary as fuck. Awhile ago I was on my front step in the middle of Ottawa suburbs, about 3 in the morning with dense fog on a weeknight so really, really still and quiet as the grave. I was quickly having a smoke before bed and then I heard hoofbeats just a few seconds before I see two mooses trot past my house at a pretty good clip (like a fast jog). It was pretty surreal, with the fog, the echo, the haze of sleep deprivation I was under, until I recalled that mooses can be really dangerous when spooked and I froze stiff. They didn't so much as notice me thankfully.
