Can you point out differences? I'm honestly not seeing much.
edit: Some of the walls look a little better with it on.

There is a slight angle change in the picture - in the AO-off image, the character is slightly closer to the table and the right side of the picture is "closer" to the viewer making direct comparisons difficult.
If anything, the AO-off image is a bit brighter - the light sources are less diffused. Personally, I'm inclined to choose the AO-off image over the AO-on version just because I'm sick of dark games.
A couple outdoors pictures, both daytime and night, without rotating the camera angles would be useful. Comparing these specific images on my 2560x1600 display, I just don't see a compelling reason to enable AO, especially if there is a noticeable loss of framerate.
But is it worth the performance loss?
My settings. OCed 1055T to 3.5Ghz and OCed my 5850 Vapor X to core 850Mhz, mem 1200Mhz

G-card temps at around 67 degrees (>...< Don't dare go any higher.
Celeras, any chance you can put some GTX460 and 5830 scores on the leaderboard so people can get an idea at a glance what those GPUs will score without combing through a 72 page thread?![]()
Hehe
Even at 70c it should be no problem, but you are doing the right thing start slow.
On the other hand, GTX 480 on stock fan at 100% speed and 850 clock will hit around 75~84C. Max GPU Temperature is 105C... You should have seen people cooking on that thing rofl...
Right... forgot that. And the other 4gb cards (Toxic, Ares etc.) are the normal clocked 5870's.
I had a 5770 in my pc before, and that card benched around 5100 on Low and 4000 on high. This was OC'ed too. Seeing what it looked like on even 4000 to now at 9000 going from non fullscreen to fullscreen with the fullscreen .dll, there definitely is a difference in performance.
Now the situation would be the 30fps cap that's on the beta.

AO seems to make things a bit more contrasty like dramatic shading, which actually would explain the darkening. Though the different angles is kindof odd.
In case it was in question, game is nigh unplayable with a 4870X2, I'm getting second+ mouse lag just moving it around the screen and trying to move the camera around is an effort in patience
I've tried both 10.3/10.5/10.6 Catalysts and still ugh
Let's just say it's not even worth his time right now. Don't expect anything more than barely cracking 3000 on high with core/shaders clocked nearly as high as stable for a good chunk of cards. Driver immaturity, benchmark sucks, etc, sure, but as it stands, most information isn't that great. I do know a friend of a friend in the beta who has one who might be giving me some better information on performance in a bit.
So, if you're looking at this thread confused, a bunch of posts were deleted and I was given an infraction for posting a screenshot showing the difference between AO On/Off.
You know where to find said screenshot if you want to look at it again/missed it.
Hello, this is my first post here so please bear with me. I recently ran the ffxiv benchmark with the new nvidia drivers and renaming the .exe to crysis (instead of 3dmark06, which I was using to no avail) and I saw my score literally double. Before, I hovered around 2500 high, but now I'm sitting at 5300. Could the driver and the crysis.exe change really have increased my performance by 100%?
I am really quite baffled (and extremely pleased) that I got such a huge performance boost, but I can't seem to understand why.
Unfortunately, since I do not have the post count to post URLs, I linked the img to ZAM's FFXIV benchmakr thread as Coh.
Not run a temp monitor while playing yet, but i can comfortably play with the laptop sitting on my legs in shorts. The laptop has to huge vents at the back and as the blurrb goes it keep it pretty quiet and cool![]()
Other info AO drops fps by about 5-10 depending on area which kind of sucks. With DoF on 720p 2xAA standard shadows hitting 30fps (GPU seems to max out alot of the time when its not 30fps) constant everywhere except guildleve guy in LL and the athercyte at bearded rock. Even the drops too 15fps don't stop the game from feeling like its running smooth.
Hope this info helps i'll try getting a gpu temp monitor running next time i get a chance.
