Is that a E6600 (dualcore) or a Q6600 (quadcore)? Either way you can just overclock it a bit and get a pretty decent boost. You should run the game pretty well even if you don't though. Wouldn't worry about upgrading or anything, though a quadcore certainly helps the situation. Edit: Also the 9800GT is worse than a GTX260, not sure why you would want to do that.

You quite honestly don't need to spend even close to that much. You could get away with spending about $400 (if you have a monitor/kb/mouse/etc) and run the Beta, and in turn Retail, perfectly fine.

Your Macbook has a 9400M or a 9600M right? Neither are even the minimum requirements for the Beta or the Retail game. The 9400M is pretty low end (think: slightly > integrated). The 9600M is about 2 years old now and even then it wasn't close to top of the line (in between 9500GT and 9600GT). I know you love your Mac and I don't have any problems with that. Expensive doesn't mean top of the line though. Mac's have been lagging behind pretty hard in the graphics card department for a really long time now. They are just now starting to include real high end cards in Mac Pros.

Despite what I've said, if you have the 9600M, I'm willing to bet the game will run at a low res (1024x768 or something), with most graphics settings off/toned down, decently well though.
Probably not 30fps everywhere but you'll manage. Don't think the 9400M could though.

Edit again because I was doing all the other questions anyway:

I saw another persons screen shot with a 2.4 ghz and a ati radeon 4800 series and it had way better scores (like 1000 better). I wasn't sure if my graphics card would be a problem. It seems the lower model is out performing mine. Any suggestions?
A 4800 is better than a 5570 by quite a bit. To let you know: the 5700s are usually comparable to the 4800s... not exactly sure why they aren't in the benchmark but owell. A graphics card upgrade would do you well anyway.

    Ugh. Jealous.

I'm on a Mac Pro and I CANNOT get the stupid beta to work. Benchmark gave me a score of about 4000 on the high setting. But the Beta client won't even launch for me.

I don't have a dual GPU system. I downgraded to 10.2 last night and it fixed my problem in XI, so it is the drivers.

Then you're not referring to Microstuttering, and just picked a poor(already used) term to describe the issue you are having with FFXI. No big D.

I thought both sides had fixed microstuttering with xfire/sli a while back.

I wish It's quite annoying in some games. Fallout 3 comes to mind as a particularly bad one.

Downloaded the latest drivers for my card the other day (geforce 9800gt) and it seems that SLI is now working (im basing this both on the SLI graph being active when running the benchmark and on my score being noticably higher when i run it with SLI active).

Nah, I got a 5870. I was reading about problems with the 5970 and figured I'd just get a 5850 and Crossfire it if I wanted to upgrade further.

You mean 10.7? Beta drivers were released on ATIs site recently, http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...iewDriver.aspx. Apparently they are getting a full release later today (unless they were talking about the beta).

Someone posted the 10.8 on guru3d. I'm assuming it's a very early beta but it is newer than the 10.7 beta that's been posted and has some new features.

10.8 didn't work for me, got a black screen in the middle of install and had to restart the PC... I don't think that was meant to happen.

If they are legit I would assume that they are a -very- early beta, since ATI schemes their drivers as following: year.month. For example: 10 = 2010 and 7 = July, so, the 10.7 drivers are due out about now (they were rumored for last week and finally the beta came out today). I wouldn't expect much stability out of 10.8 if they are legit.

Ok, I did a small amount of Testing. My specs: 1090t @ 4.0ghz, 4gb ram, 5850 @ 850/1175. 10.4 (what I was running before) 4,150, 10.7: 4,244, 10.8: 4,255. I'm going to stick with 10.8 because it has a few more features (like the option to improve online video) and I assume a few bug fixes.

The Black screen is because the catalyst get interrupted and it asks you "Do you really want to cancel de instalation?" (Or something like that) Yes No, so all you need is push the N key in order to let the installation manager finish.
