So it appears that FFXIV is driven more by the processor. In that case, how does the PS3 Cell processor compare to an i7 930 or is that a comparison you can't make?
1.4 Volts is a lil' high, I hope you're using watercooling! Could you check with Process Explorer how many threads are constantly above say 30%? On dual-core machines only one thread is. You might be able to bump up your clock even higher if you disable some unloaded cores, or disable hyperthreading.
Only 10 points difference from my score on Low

Intel Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
4GB RAM(not super ram just regular)
HD 5770 1GB - OC Core 850hmz ->900MHz/ Memory Clock 1200 ->1300MHz
I am going to try and OC my CPU later this week to 3.0GHz and turn off AA to see if I can break 3000

I'll have to overclock when I get back home. D:
I'll post mine as soon as I post 10 random things so I can use URLs :D
thats what I get for being a damn lurker
1.4 on air is fine for the gulftown CPUs, even 1.45 is pretty safe Vcore for these Gulftown chips.. I think all 6 cores were above 30%. The other 6 hyper threaded were unused for the bench. I cant disable hyperthreading because This PC runs the media server for 4 of my Televisions and encoding will eat up the Hyper threading. I forgot to mention I also overclocked my GPU and Ram to get 8k, and theres still a little wiggle room on those too.
Well, you could disable hyperthreading just for the benchmark, along with disabling all background services, network connections and whatnot just for the >9000! You might even get a slightly better score by lowering your monitor resolution and refresh rate, and disabling all but your primary monitor. Also, if you are using 6 DIMMs, you could even use just 3 and tighten your timings up a bit. (Trying to get post count up, btw... )
You need to have a fast GPU to start hitting processor speed limitations. On the same machine I mentioned earlier in High res, a GTS250 scores about 30% higher than an HD2900XT, which is similar to other directx9 games. Seems that the benchmark doesn't use any physx or directx10 dlls.
Code:[email protected] gpu: 2900xt GTS250 HI: 1694 2457 LO: 3252 4230
ok, running this means its time to get a new video card, 1570 on high, GTFO NEED MOAR POWA
overclocked my 5870 to 900/1250 and set my ram to 4-4-4-15 @ ddr2-800
managed a 4214 on low, 300 points higher than my previous, i could probably hit ~4.1k on high if i up my CPU to 3.4
actually the gtx480 isn't considerably faster than a 5870, and in some games it's slower (BFBC2, Splinter Cell Conviction, Left 4 Dead)
reading the anandtech reviews, the games where the GTX480 is faster than a 5870 are generally around 4-8 fps, whereas the games where the 5870 is faster are by a much wider margin (10 or more), these are @ 2560x1600 resolutions also
the GTX480 is more 'future proof' though, as it has a pretty powerful hardware tesselation setup, that the R5x00 series can't touch (Youtube GTX480 vs 5970 Heaven Benchmark, and you'll see what I mean)
Updated to #235, added a run done by a friend since nobody here has a 480. Spoilered for dual-monitorage

Still crashing for me even after I downloaded the D3DX9_41.dll file.

It would appear that I need ten posts to link images lol

anyone with 3000+ should be fine, since I remember seeing they will support multi cpu in the future so we should see some better scores later (and people over 9000!) although soaps getting close haha
These specs are ridiculous, I thought I had a nice PC and I scored 1517 on high. Either the benchmark is not an accurate portrayal of the game or they are really expecting you to have a nice rig to be able to play this game at the 'default' (not low) settings.
