ok i got a download from that and drivers installed, i rebooted and tried the benchmark but still same error.
hmm thats all I had :S assuming you updated your direct X and windows update as well not sure what else could be wrong.
Perhaps a visit to google along with the keywords "<insert my laptop name/model here> FFXIV benchmark problem" would reveals something S: I'm all out of ideas otherwise
Hmm ok, i will try that in the morning. that you for all the help you gave me tonight. Take care.
Lady
PS if anyone has any other ideas i am open to suggestions. Thank you.
Edit: I have not been able to get to windows update, it says its not working or available at the momment.
best idea would be to return that laptop and do some research instead of listening to salespeople at a store

Which is kind of pitiful.
And I gotta ask. I need to buy a new laptop for school, and I wanted to kill two birds with one stone by buying a machine that can handle FFXIV. Looking through about half of this thread, I see very little to suggest I should even consider running this game on a laptop.Am I SOL unless I look to spend a good chunk of cash?
I wanted to do that as well.
After 2 weeks of searching around, I decided to get a desktop + laptop instead. There just aren't good options if you don't want to pay arm and leg for something "decent".
This here in EU though, I believe laptops are quite cheaper in the US.
If you are determined to get just a laptop then the Asus G73jh-A1 is your best bet for a laptop that can run FFXIV well. Hyan is right though if your just going to do word processing at school then pick up a netbook and spend the rest of your budget on getting as good a desktop as you can.

Video Card: XFX Radeon 5870 ZNDC
I'd prefer to just own one machine, though.
Looking at the model you recommended though, I also saw this:

Same CPU, same graphics card, but half the RAM. Well, half the HDD space too (not that I need a terabyte of storage), and the video memory is 1GB DDR3 versus 1GB GDDR5.
But I'm just not seeing the difference other than the price. I'm not looking for an 8K benchmark or anything, just a laptop that I can load FFXIV on.
Sorry if this is a dumb question or has been addressed already, but is this sort of behavior... normal?

Yay first post. I've lurked BG for far too long... anyways!
My laptop is a piece of *choose a word*. It's 3 years old. I love it, but it's time to change...
Windows Vista 32Bit
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 1.83 GHz
3GB DRR2
NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS
Needless to say, it benchmarked a 550ish on low; so I decided to do a bit of pre shopping for a desktop, and am looking for input.
Was looking at picking this up.
Windows 7 64Bit
Intel i5 760 Quad Core @ 2.8Ghz
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB
4GB DDR3 RAM ( 2x2 )
With the other stuff, it comes to about $1100. Would this suffice? Looking at the scores i'd hazard a guess at it benching around the high 3000's to low 4's on high, or am I wrong? I'm horrid with keeping up with computer tech. Also, would there be anything you'd suggest swapping out in favour of a difference piece? Keep in mind, I don't need a hard core gaming machine, FFXIV, SC2, Dragon Age is probably all i'd play on it.
If you plan on OCing I think you could just go for the i5 750 as well. That and a 460 would be a better (unless you can get the i5 760 for cheaper than 750 in a deal or something)
You using fullscreen hack? That looks familiar but I can't quite remember why
