I don't even think your PC can run it very well. Judging from the pic, you're at the boat fight part so getting just below 900 would mean that your PC will have some tough times playing it. But, like the poster above me said, that's not very normal.

Speaking of which, I OC'd my Q9550 to 3.83ghz and I immediatly went from 4300 to 4800 on high. Seems pretty good going from 3.10ghz to 3.83ghz.

    Which is kind of pitiful.

And I gotta ask. I need to buy a new laptop for school, and I wanted to kill two birds with one stone by buying a machine that can handle FFXIV. Looking through about half of this thread, I see very little to suggest I should even consider running this game on a laptop. Am I SOL unless I look to spend a good chunk of cash?
you'll spend at least 2500$ if not more to get a laptop that can run FFXIV moderately well. (poorly will be in the 2k range) you'd be better off getting a 1k$ desktop and a 1k$ laptop.

I bought my laptop a year ago and the beta runs something between poorly and decent - and it was far below 2k$

Ehh the $1200 Asus G73 from BestBuy runs the game just fine from what I hear.

Yeah, I was doing a lot of reading over the weekend, and it looks like the smartest thing to do would be what was mentioned a few posts back, invest in a desktop, and grab a netbook for word processing.

Don't really understand why I'm getting such a low score if my laptop deftly meets the requirements.

Fixed. Your GPU is roughly half the speed of an old 8800GT, which is the minimum requirement.

FYI I had that happen to me when running the bench with the full screen trick on a 4870X2

Kinda happy with the OC and the Sapphire 5870 OC Edition 1GB. It's sitting @ 35C idle and about 60C tops while running Prime95 so I think it's good enough. I'm actually gonna upgrade this PC and use the leftover parts to make a second PC so I dual box :D

Edit: Made the huge pic a spoiler.

I did have a few runs where the graph was a lot more jagged than normal, but not to that degree. Never found the cause, stopping and rerunning the bench made it go away usually.

From 2.83 to 4.01ghz on a Q9550. The idle and load temps are with an aftermarket heatsink.

I meant your graphics card. Or did you mean you only OC'ed your cpu?

    Ohh, it's OC'd to 900/1300. Can't go any higher, it seems >_>

Thanks. It's actually a $60 difference at my computer store, but i'll take a look.

I have no idea how to overclock, so I doubt i'd try it, unless you can point me somewhere? And it's only a $10 diff between the CPU's.

How does your store compare to newegg? Standard protocol is that newegg is pretty much used as the baseline for prices. B&M stores are typically a lot more expensive (with the rare exception such as certain CPUs at Microcenter). Assuming you're in the United States, of course. Can't speak for Europeans since they get hit with all those weird VAT taxes and the like.

Screen shot or it didn't happen. The set up doesn't seem quiet up to it unless hes OCed it alot.

I'm Canadian, so i'd be going through ncix.com ( can't link, 10 posts ). I checked out newegg though, and it looks like the GTX460 here is ~$40 more. What exactly is the difference between that card and the Radeon 5770?

From what my understanding, he's only OC'd it to 2.9ghz and he has the 460 so I'm definitely calling bullshit. My rig is better than his and yet I'm only able to get as high as 4900 on high. Somehow he managed to get it to 8300 with a lower speed and a shittier GPU than mine...
