That's nothing. My father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate, who may or may not be a former intergalactic dictator (I'm not allowed to say), managed to make the benchmark use not only all my "total RAM" and CPU, but it uses the OP's total RAM and CPU power, too. He got 23576 on high using a 486 and a 3dfx Voodoo2 video card. The trick is that you just have to make sure you use all the available ports and not just two, so that the flux capacitor can achieve optimal tachyon variance within the quantum diffraction matrix. Amazing what that turbo button can do.

Unfortunately, they went to plaid so I couldn't get a screenshot. True story. You know it's real because it's on the internet.

A GTX 460 is between 5830 and 5850 in performance. HD 5770 is about half the power of a 5870/5850 (In CF 2x 5770 sit between them).

Oh wow, that $60 difference is looking pretty small suddenly. Thanks!

NCIX lists the 5830 for more than the 460. Odd?

Dunno if you're still taking submissions for benchmarks, but since I just built this comp, I figured I'd show it off.

    Computer specs.
    OS: Windows 7
    CPU: i5 750 @ 2.66 GHZ
    Mobo: Gigabyte P55-UD3
    RAM: 2x2GB G.Skill
    GPU: Radeon HD 5870 1GB (XFX HD-587X-ZNFV)
    PSU: Corsair HX-650W
HDD: Some 500G at 7200. Seagate Barracuda, I think. From my previous comp.

Basically the CPU/GPU is at stock, I didn't OC it. The only thing I did was I manually set the fan speed of the GPU to 63%. IDK why, I just felt like setting it higher. *shrug* The noise doesn't bother me.

Now for the pictures. I ran the benchmarks when I first set up this comp a few days ago, and I scored a 4550/5368. I reran them today after doing my thing with my comp (like playing Just Cause 2, and connecting my HDTV to the video card via HDMI as a second monitor), so here's the new runs. Only about a 10 point difference basically from before.

I can't post URLs yet, so you gotta copy and paste into the address par and delete what says delete, lol. Guess there really isn't a benefit to lurking. XD

I'm quite impressed that my old system scores decently.

SLi isn't even enabled and I'm scoring higher than I'd thought I would... Once SLi is allowed, it'll fare even better --enough to hold me over until AMD's bulldozer chips are released next year.

I'm not making 9 junk posts just to be able to post images, so here's the URL

    url: a.imageshack.us/img251/2944/ff14benchb.jpg

copy & paste if you're even interested in checking it out.

    Summary of the screencap:

    Athlon 64 x2 5200, 4gb DDR2, GTX 260, Windows 7; Score: 2102, on High. I don't "do" low.

just looked up the specs. and you're right.

that's a laptop more in name and form factor than reality though; 1:20hr~ battery life just web surfing? I guess if you'll always be near an outlet it'd be fine. (I'd hate to carry it all day though, 8.5 pounds just for the laptop itself means the bag will be pushing 12-15 with power converter and any other accessories.)

if you *needed* a laptop, wanted to game, and only had 1200$ to spend I would agree this would work though - although you might still be better off with a 300$ netbook and 900$ desktop.

edit: and the best buy in wi is selling it for 1600$ (fmstate)

ok so I have my new pc and just ran the benchmark. I scored 2391 on low settings.

    Here are my specs:

MSI 870-G45 AM3 AMD 870 ATX AMD Motherboard
    AMD Athlon II X2 245 2.9 GHz
    4GB DDR3 Ram
    600 Watt powersupply
    250GB Harddrive 7200rpm
Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 768MB Ram
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I have not overclocked anything (partially because I don't really know what that means and partially because I need to get somebody from work who does to come over and help me do it)

I scored 5.9 on the Windows Experience Index which I thought (in my extensive knowledge of hardware [sarcasm]) was pretty good. The score was based on my Hard drive with the next lowest being my processor at 6.4. Ram was 7.1 and video card was 7.3.

My question is ... do I need a faster hard drive to make any sort of impact on the benchmark score or is there something else I can do? I am not at all concerned with the high quality score since I expect to play at the "low quality" which looks pretty good to me as-is. If at all possible I would like to get to the 3000-4499 range for playing just so I am a little above "Standard Performance". I did notice during the benchmark process that I had huge drops in the little graph thingie that I think may be causing the lower end score.

    A couple comments:

    A) I have no clue how you all take screenshots to submit so you will have to trust me that I am not lying about my fantastic score ... if you put me on the table. (I only know Alt-Print screen + paste in a word doc)
    B) I have no clue how you all track things such as cpu temp and whatever, or even if I should be concerned with it.
    C) I ordered the parts for this pc based on the recommended specs so far released, and if the recommended specs only provide enough to reach "Slightly Low Performance" then I feel sorry for anyone who meets only the system requirements.

Please remember that I have only ever played on consoles and am completely new to the pc gaming realm.

Bolded your problem. You need to upgrade your CPU. A Phenom II x4 would work perfectly for about $150. Or you could try overclocking your CPU a bit if you don't feel like spending more money. With a better CPU though, you could easily play on high settings.

Some of us get laptops so we can just play wherever we want in the house. Personally, my wife hates mmos, but she can tolerate it if I play on laptop because at least I can still be with her and carry a conversation (sort of...).

You need to change the bios so you can change the gfx clocks if you want to get long life for just web browsing. Do a google search and you will see there are people that can push almost 3 hours.

it's going to be a lot less than 1 hour gaming though, so it's still pretty tethered. (3 hours isn't bad for productivity work though at the pack weight this laptop will sit at, you could easily carry extra battery packs with a more mobile laptop and reach 6-12 hours depending on make/model)

anyway, I wasn't dinging the battery life, which is high-normal for a gaming laptop, just noting that it runs a little counter to most laypeople's expectations of how they will use a laptop when not gaming. (needing to change a laptop bios to get this is sort of an advanced task too)

you'd be the sort of person this laptop was really made for, I think.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for helping me with my laptop issues. We took it back and got a slightly different one (for $100 less even) and it ran bench mark at 1700 approx. (better then my desk top even). Not bad for a laptop for $1k.

Now becaue of this little discovery of my bf's laptop running the benchmark better then my PC i was surprised with the money to get a new computer upgrade. Now to figure out what the hell i want. I have a few options on video cards and processors so i am going to post in the hardware thread to get help there.

Thank you again for the help this weekend.

    Lady

Shrink the image before saving ffs. This thread is pretty horrendous in that regard.

Somewhere in this thread or the other one someone posted a link to a japanese site that had a tally of scores/hardware. Does anyone have that link? I looked back through the whole first half of this thread and am now crosseyed and couldn't find it either.

If this has been covered somewhere, please forgive.

But while running the benchmark, and using Afterburner, I can see that my GPU is almost constantly at 98 or 99% usage, whereas my CPU is around 40% usage.

Does this mean I could greatly benefit from a better graphics card?
I was thinking maybe my processor would limit me if I upgraded, but maybe not...

    I'm currently using a Q6600 and an HD 5770.
