Curious, didn't wanna make a new thread..
Is it possible to upgrade the following on my computer in anticipation for FF:XIV?
Windows Vista 64 Bit > Windows 7 64 Bit
ATI Radeon HD 4870 x 2 > ATI Radeon 5870 (I guess it's better?)
I mean on graphics cards.. since I have two.. is it possible to just take them both out of their slots and throw a new graphics card in.. and it works right off the bat? Never done it..
Will I even see any performance increase in graphics (in general) or in FF:XIV with Windows 7? Or should I stick with Vista? I have no issues with Vista really.. and 7 didn't seem like it offered much.
^ go with Win7
As far as FFXIV goes I believe that there's no real reason to upgrade from Vista to 7 (Basing this opinion on FFXIV not using DX11). IMHO though Windows 7 is a better OS then Vista all around (as far as stability, performance, aesthetics goes). And of course the UAC is not as annoying in 7.
IMO if you can afford the OS upgrade, go for it.
I have a similar question for mine as well. I currently have an ATI Radeon 5500 series. I posted a while back about my system specs and the only response I got back was that I could get a better video card (which I assumed). I have an Intel Core i7 930 @ 2.8ghz with windows 7. I'm going to go ahead and upgrade my video card as well and was wondering the same Jak. These are the 2 cards I'm looking at:
5850 Vapor-X & 5870 Cypress XT
I just wanted to know if my computer can handle them fine and I know some people had issues with the sizes of the card and whatnot. I have a standard sized tower. Does anyone have a preference over these 2 cards? Is the difference is the 2 cards worth the price differentiation? Seeing as I'm going to upgrade anyway price really isn't a factor at the moment but I don't want to spend the extra cash unless it's really worth doing. Thanks in advance.
Alright. I guess I never had an issue others have had. I can run several things at one time, memory eating programs, and never notice slow downs and I have never had any "hang ups" or instability in the 1.5 years I've used it.
But, if it looks better and all.. and for future use I guess I'll upgrade. Is upgrading to windows 7 on-line easy? I noticed for 129.99 I can download Windows 7 64 bit (22 gigs worth) and get backup disk for 15 bucks. Is it worth it? I don't have to lose all my files if I just upgrade to 7 instead of a whole new OS install right?
Wouldn't you only need to remove one card?
I'm not exactly an expert on crossfire, but I'm rather sure two different ATI cards should be able to work together, as long as both support crossfire, or am I completely wrong in this assumption? That's what I seem to remember reading at least.
rate my build
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
Processor: Intel Core i7-930
RAM: Corsair Dominator 6Gb
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 500Gb
having some problem choosing a good video card with balanced price
also.. how much watts do I need? 650W enough?
I'm not doing the OC things btw
Bigger is always better, and judging the cards from Celeras' post on the Tech forums comparing all the DX11 cards, IMO the price difference is definitely justifiable.
I'd like to note though 5850 is an excellent card and it should be more than enough to play FFXIV comfortably.
Can anyone enlighten me as to how much the lane speed affects gpu cards? Specifically in sli on something (470x2) running x8/x8 rather than x16?
Quoting this because it's piqued my interest.
If I got a 5870 and were able to crossfire it with one of my 4870s I guess my processor would use the more powerful one? 4870 doesn't support DX11 so I'm guessing if I crossfired 5870+4870 (if its possible) then it would support DX11?
And is paying 500 bucks for a 5870 on newegg really the best? I noticed some 5870s were 500 while others were 300.. will I notice a huge different?
ATI says you can't do this.
