The truth is that Nvidia and ATI cards trade blows but you can't sit here and say that 460 and 470 are a good deal better than a 5850/5870 consistently.

Here is recent read-up about the DX11 games being benched by a plethora of cards

470 higher than 5870, 460 higher than 5850. Both of which are to the left, and both gaps widen when you compare SLI vs CF due to superior scaling. And they widen even further when overclocking is brought into the picture. It's a pretty straightforward conclusion.. I'm not exactly going out on a limb here.

For those of you that were able to use two vid cards during benchmark (especially nvidia cards) can you explain how you did it without having your computer crash? I've updated all drivers and directx, but have been unable to run the benchmark with SLI enabled.

That's a price in relation to FPS chart - it doesn't have anything to do with what I'm talking about - on the X-axis there is a chart with the price and then the y axis has how much FPS you are getting for a certain price and what card goes there so no it's not a linear transition to what we're talking about.

Out of EVERY game even in DX11 there was only ONE game where a 460 beats a 5850 and a a 470 beats a 5870 and that was Metro and the test methodology was crap.

This isn't a price/performance conversation - you're sitting there saying that the 460 beats the 5850 and a 470 beats a 5870 by a good deal in performance - when if you look at out of 6 games reviewed only 1 of them did that happen.

I'm not going to argue with you, but you seriously fail at interpreting graphs lol. The Y Axis is the overall average in FPS in all their testing. Ignore the X if you want to ignore pricing (???), but the higher the peg the higher performance. Pricing doesn't come into that equation.

Take it to the tech thread if you want to argue with the results.

I'm getting crap results from my desktop PC.

AMD Phenom II 945 Quad-Core Processor, 8 gigs of RDM, ATI Radeon HD 5450 512MB

I'm getting scores in the 600-800 range in low def mode. Is there an easy upgrade? Just swap the graphics card? I dont need high end graphics, I just need the game to play smooth. Any help would be great, I'm definitely a computer noob.

Yeah your GPU is holding you back, if you like ATI, the 5830 seems to be the cheapest decent upgrade IMO, But I'd go with the Nvidia GTX460 since it outperforms the 5830 by noticeable margin (even the 768MB version) and both cards have the same price points ($199-$230). the GTX460 1GB version appears to be worth the investment though (20-30 dollars more for a noticeable bump in performance over the 768MB version).

I will add that my wife's PC has a 8800GTX (768MB) and it scores ~3k on the benchmark, enough to play the game comfortably with no/few effects on, So you could allways go for a 9800 GTX those are around $120.

Well, I'm thinking about selling my 5970 and picking up some 460's or the unlockable 465's to SLI but I'm weary of how multi-card/gpu scaling will be when retail hits. If it's bad at least I'll have a 5870 GPU to rely on if it doesn't work correctly.

i7's are built to run hot. 90c isn't ideal but it's not gonna crash the comp.. and 80c is perfectly acceptable. I understand some ppl don't like their CPU's to get so hot, but 80-90c is perfectly fine

Just throwing this in here, but the 460 wasn't actually made to directly compete with the 5850. Just sayin'.

For Canadian people, the XFX 5870 is onle sale, $399.00 is sort of a steal when most cards are 430-470

Your hardware is fine, we need more information such as how hot you are running (I think you have your heatsink might be installed badly and system is compensating).

Let us know your bios version and voltages (maybe something is wrong with your memory timings)

There are a million things that could be wrong. What else are you running with your benchmark? Is this a fresh install? Did you take a hard drive from a previos build and use it in this build?

Yea as soon as i seen the score i knew something was wrong.

I got 2500~ with my old machine which had E6850 Core 2 Duo, 4gb RAM, ATI 4850....

Any suggestions or anything i can do to establish why its low?

On top of all this im having sound troubles. I have an SB Audigy card but nothing will work for it. Huge mind fuck atm very frustrated lol

Complete fresh install / format of the SSD & 1 TB drive. Nothing else was running bar firefox and some tabs open.

What would be the best thing to run? CPU-Z/Speedfan/GPU?

Should i run these while the benchmark is running?

    Thanks

since you are running an evga board i recommend evga eleet, and run it while the benchmark is going. we need screencaps of each tab.

If you notice the cores getting over 90-100c you need to stop/shutdown and let pc cool for 10 minutes, then double check your heatsink/thermal paste.

Also, just for kicks, run the windows rating tool and let us know your windows rating. should be 7.9 ish

Also, if windows rating is bad, reseat your ram/gpu

Those timings on the RAM are too low, your RAM is rated at CL 8-8-8-24 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)

EDIT:: Also you should be able to run it at 1600 MHz, it's currently at ~1300.

And the voltage on your CPU looks a bit high for a 3.3GHz OC (although temps seem ok), do you really need to run it that high for it to be stable? (I can run a stable 3.8 GHz at 1.17V)
