I've actually been getting the same thing happen and I have a Q9550 OC'd to 3.83ghz and a 5870 OC'd. However, it's only happened a couple times now. I'll check again today when I have time to login if it's the same.

Say it once, say it a million times. Shit's not properly optimized at all, and there's always gonna be crappy glitches running stuff like this. I remember beta testing a game that took CONSIDERABLY less to run, and shit would still get botchy/lag-spiky in towns and what not.

My PSU has been crying like a bitch lately, it's making this low pitch sound when I'm in the middle of games, thought it was my GPU at first but I took it apart and stuck my ear in the case, and sound is definitely coming from the PSU.

It's a 750W PC Power & Cooling: http://www.xpcgear.com/s75q.html never gave me problems with my old c2d and 4870, but those components consume less power. A i7-930 @ 3.8Gh and a 5850 OC'd by 15% shouldn't bring a 750W PSU to it's knees, right? Besides that I only have 1 hard drive and a DVD drive connected, 3 case fans, so it's not like there's tons of stuff to power up.

Maybe the PSU is going bad, if I get one of those corsair 850W it should be silent running what I described above right? So far problems haven't manifested in performance hits, but I started noticing that noise on Saturday, and I spent all day fucking around trying to maximize my OC that day, so maybe I've reached this PSU's limits.

Is the low pitch noise present even when taking the GPU/CPU to stock clocks?, Although I think it's very unlikely that 750W PSU itself is pushing its limits with a 5850 OCed by 15% and a i7 930. Basing this on having a GTX465 OCed by like 15% and a [email protected] 3 case fans and the CPU cooler (1 Water pump + 2 120mm Fans) on a 650W PSU and my PC is dead quiet (except when the GPU revs up ofcourse... xD).

It could be a matter of poor craftsmanship and not insufficient wattage. Corsair (based on my experience) builds quality components, and has great CS in case said components fail.

Low Score was about 6000 (irrelevant)
    High Score:
    4080

    AMD Phenom IIx6 1055t OC @ 3.36
    Galaxy GTX 470 OC 780Core

Do you guys think buying an after market cooler for my CPU and pushing it to 4ghz would offer that much improvement to my high score?

I highly doubt it, as Celeras mentioned earlier in the thread>>

    Low-Res: CPU
    High-Res: GPU

Although pushing your CPU higher would offer a marginal boost, your GPU will ultimately be responsible for big score swings on high settings.

On the first page of this thread there's someone with a 470 / 1055t @ 4.0Ghz, High Score of 4156.

It isn't present at stock speeds no.

Probably just going out, gonna order a corsair.

Manually editing/exporting the SLI profile via the 256+ profile tool and adding 'ffxivgame.exe' as an entry with appropiate has gotten SLI functioning, unofficially.

I decided to ditch the 5850 and get a GTX480, what brand/model would you guys recommend for best overclockability? I don't plan on using an after market cooler.

And the PSU noise problem seems to be tied to the cpu OC, sucks but I had to reduce clock speeds on my cpu from 3.8 to 3.6, which allowed me to reduce voltage. With those settings the PSU does get a tad louder but no where near as annoying, also my load temps drop by 10C, kind of weird -200mhz makes that much of a difference.

eVGA is the best brand all around, but zotac has the best aftermarket cooler preinstalled on their Zotac AMP version.

I'm under the impression that brands don't matter much for the 480, some companies offer longer warranties than others, that's about it. Asus (3 years), Galaxy (2 years), Palit (2 years), Zotac, eVGA, PNY have lifetime warranties, iirc.

I've only dealt with eVGA and they're pretty swift with replacements. A friend bought the SC version of the eVGA and I think it's not really worth the extra $20 just for a 25mhz difference <_>.

Here's a link for the reference eVGA GTX480:
