Some of it also depends on your memory speed. I remember I forgot to set my memory to DDR2000 for some benches like from DDR1066 and got like a 500+ point gain. I have to do tests, but from what I remember the bench responds well to higher memory speeds than lower latency timings.

slightly harder to do though, since you're juggling a few more components at once. (usually worth it)

Am I doing something wrong? Something seems off but maybe it's me. My precision program says GeForce 480 but I'm using a 470, first off.. and also it's suppose to be overclocking I thought but it seems like GPU-Z is showing it not overclocking.. can someone tell me if it is?

My recommendation is to use MSI Afterburner, but those clocks are correct.

With the GTX 470, core clock and shader clock are tied in together.

Core Clock is 1/2 of shader clock.

    1250 Shader / 2 = 625 core clock.

With memory just divide by 2.

Yah.. precision didn't work like it should and I forgot I had Afterburner. I got it to OC to 780~ but my FFXIV benchmark stayed the same on high settings.. only reaching 3000. Oh well, I've heard horror stories of that benchmark so I'll just stay away from it. I ran HEaven benchmark and everything is on par with what the websites say it should be.. with everything max on it I'm getting an average of 27FPS.

No OC, all stock, right out of the box. I'm new to OC'ing as well so suggestions are welcome. I was just excited because my original High score was like 800-900.

Need to OC close to 4.0 Ghz to hit 7k+ on low assuming no bottleneck from GPU.

    Edit:

Also with Buddy's "5750", if you check on his Graphics Card benchmark info, it says 5500 series.

I just notice my typo after reading this. It's a "5570." Sorry for the confusion if any.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat, only my High score was 300, so I'm quite happy with my current results and don't really feel a need to OC it, although it would be fun to try xD

That's just the precision skin, change it to the 470 skin if youd like. And you didnt click 'apply' on your overclock..

I did actually hit apply many times over.. but afterburner solved everything,

Actually, I just looked again and GPU-Z is showing what its supposed to.. but the apply button usually grays out when theres nothing to apply so maybe you tweaked it again when you took the screenshot ;p 1250/2 = 625, 1925/2 = 963, which is exactly what you set it to in Precision.

But whatever, MSI afterburner and eVGA precision are the exact same program built on the same code by the same dev with minor differences/skins.

k one last question about best buys for OCing purposes... I'm building a budget pc for my friend, gonna stick a amd phenom ii x4 and a gtx460 1gb in there, but I also want to OC it for him. I assume the "black edition" x4s are the ones to choose for OC potential, but for the gtx460 whats the best brand for keeping it cool without an aftermarket cooler and still get a decent OC?

Celeras reccomended the zotac amp for the gtx480 which has an impressive cooler, however, it looks like they only have the "amp" line for 470s and 480s, so barring that, what is another good line? Just looking around, the best stock cooler seems to be from MSI or Gigabyte?

Just wanted to give you ATI guys a heads up that the next catalyst driver update 10.8 is going to have an FFXIV crossfire profile.

I tweeted the maker of ATI drivers, since he seems to tweet a lot, asking about if their would be a profile/support for crossfire and he actually tweeted back and said it would be in for the next driver update 10.8 which should be out sometime next week!

Thank god, my 5970 was getting tired of running 1 gpu

    I'd recommend Gigabyte's GTX 465...

The card benefits from having two fans and heat pipes in a reasonably sized package. Here are some performance marks from it too.

Oh, awesome - any idea when that comes out?

I might pick up another 5870 when it comes out then... although I think I might need another PSU for that. Anyone knows if 650 is enough for an i7, 4 fans and 2 5870's? <.<

    Hey Isla,

Are you serious or making that up. Don't mean to sound untrusting but speaking with the maker of ATI drivers?? I really hope you are right on this one. By all means I am NOT calling you a liar. I'm just getting my hopes up for this game with my 5970 and to have hope that it will support CF. Hopefully you are right
