I have a Q9300 running at 3.4Ghz and a GTX470. While I don't get a huge bottleneck from the CPU on 1080P settings, I do score ~ 1000pts lower on the high benchmark than someone with a GTX470 and an i7.

While you won't have a huge bottleneck at 1080P, I'd definitely recommend trying to OC your processor to around 3Ghz so you can squeeze out some more performance.

Was referring to bottleneck that occurs when cpu can't feed gpu rendering instructions fast enough.(3ghz dual core is enough for a gtx 460 for a properly functioning game that does its work on the GPU)
FFXIV seems to bottleneck on the CPU just because it does a lot of the gfx rendering on CPU instead of GPU. Video card doesn't do much in these situations(such as the fog on the stairs scene in the benchmark)
Though I guess the latter bottleneck is really what the concern is.

Also, missing HDD (and DVD drive if you don't have one)

I got an SSD because I heard they were fast and the computer I'm using now for media storage/torrenting/etc.

Also gonna get a dvd drive. Any suggestions?

    Rig in Sig:

I am running the beta in full screen 1920 x 1080. Default settings, yet I am noticing distortion on the screen in the form of a horizontal blur across the screen when I move. Any idea what could be causing this? It does not cover the entire screen, just a small portion, but I feel this should not be there considering the specs of my rig.

EDIT: For some reason I cannot see my sig... so I assume other cannot as well.

    My Rig: AMD 965 BE OC 4.0GHz | Sapphire 5970 2GB | Gigabyte 890FX Mobo | Corsair 850W PSU Modular | Noctua NH-D14 | HAF 932 | 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 | 24" Samsung P2450H

That board will fit the cpu, but not the ram. 1156 socket chips are only use dual channel ram. So you're either going to get 4gbs or 8gbs.

As for dvd drive, just get anything.

@Omega thats screen tearing, you would have to force Vsync (it's been posted on here)

@Jakson: You will still need a HDD to store games and stuff on, 80GB will fill up FAST and the more R/Ws the shorter an SSds life is so you don't want to keep *everthing* on it anyway.

and yeah, just any dvd drive

So will this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128423 ram work?

Edit: Also, so install games on SSD, and anything that doesn't need installing, keep on another drive?

You still need to change the MB to a 1156 socket

And this samsung or this WD might be better HDDs (you can keep the SSd if you have the cash, just install OS on it and a few things)

EDIT: Also, do you have a cooler? or do you not plan on OCing

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-425-_-Product if you don't plan on SLI'ing later on works.

Ok, ty for being patient. I changed the HD to the first one you mentioned, added the SSD back in, changed the MB, and got a dvd burner. I guess the last thing would be making sure the board is the correct one. It has the 1156 in its name so I'm assuming it is a compatible board...

Edit: Oh lol your edit was the same board I picked out. I highly doubt I'll ever OC or buy another card to SLI. I assumed the CPU comes with its own heat sink/fan, is that correct or should I add one to the list?

Double Edit: Newegg's page on the processor says heat sink/fan included.

No OS yet, I might be able to get a cheap copy through my school, otherwise, do you think torrenting it would be reliable?

Yeah, you can get MD5s for ISOs to check that they are legit etc like here

Also, for the lols, I ran the benchmark on my current, 5yr old computer, and it scored a 302 on low settings.

Update your drivers if you haven't. Otherwise try enabling vsync. That sounds like tearing.

If I can recommend something the reference cards for the 470 run hot and are loud for 70 more you can get an upgraded card thats OC'ed from factory runs 20C cooler and 20DB quiter. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125338

And if your going to get a MB with SATA III get this HD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-533-_-Product its 10 more and you will get 2X the speed out of it this is the one I run for my storage drive.
