Jakson, are you building this PC yourself? I hope you have someone who is going to put it together for you. If not I hope you pay more attention when you are putting it together than you did selecting the parts

Also, your SSD is 2.5" and your case does not have any 2.5" bays in it. This means you will need to buy an adapter or jimmy rig it.

Any idea what could be causing this? It does not cover the entire screen, just a small portion, but I feel this should not be there considering the specs of my rig.

My extreme build experiences the same tearing as yours, I would not worry about it until release, if it still persists then enable vsync.

in terms of visual appeal and FPS , should Two GTX460s or One GTX480 give me the best results for FFXIV?
    paired with a core i7 930 and 6GB ram

for some reason im under the impression that the gtx480 is leaps and bounds over the gtx460, but all i ever hear about is the gtx460 - is it because of the price point or is it because its actually a better choice?

I haven't actually bought any parts yet... as soon as i figure out which card option is the best to go with - then ill start my build.

Two 460s SHOULD do better than a single 480, but can't say til release, as so far SE has shown themselves incapable of properly utilizing gfx hardware.

SLI GTX 460s will do better in 90% of applications; check Tom's Hardware for their comparison. FFXIV, it will if it utilizes SLI / CF properly, it not who knows. It seems people with legit setups are getting unusual hiccups. Would love to test and mess around with my i7 930 @4.2 + 5870, but can't get beta access for the life of me.

EDIT: My advice is generally to get 1 of the higher end cards, then get a second in a year or so when the price drops. Gives you better future adaptability imo.

I'll have two GTX460's tommorow but I dont have beta access so all I can post is benchmark results, I dont think anyone has posted a bench for 2xGTX460s yet.

Anyone going to test the CF functionality with Catalyst 10.8?

It's releasing on Wednesday and support for FFXIV is confirmed according to this:

    http://twitter.com/CatalystMaker

May have a few hours to test before beta 3 ends.

I have two sli 480's, nothing can compare to that (yet)
For those of you who are wondering though, the base speeds for each (can be made higher with OC)

460 runs between 675 and 763 Mhz clock speed depending on the version
    460 ... 3600 - 3800 Mhz Memory clock speed ...
    460 uses 1024MB memory

480 runs between 700-752 clock speed
    480 runs 3600 - 3800 Memory clock speed
    480 uses 1536MB memory

Also, when it comes to OC, 480 has higher potential.

So when 460s are SLIed, you get more memory, the same clock speeds, and twice the bandwidth for performance.

But, two 480s would do much better than two 460s so if you are after performance spend the $$$

From a thread I submitted on the nVidia forums about the outrageous temperatures for 400 series cards:

Maybe they'll find something I only wish I still had the stock cooler installed so I could throw temperatures of 100+ in their face.. but I'm not willing to tear down the card and put it back on just for this. If you're in the same boat, overclock to your max and run FFXIV and take a screenshot!

I had the same processor in my old computer... but with an Nvidia 8800 GS. My low score was 2200~ if i remember correctly. Though i may have had my processor overclocked to 2.9ghz at the time.

Here we go, my first test. Seems really low, but who knows what it'll do in the game utilizing both gpus.

Let me know what you think. Provided this picture posts.

From what I've read the 460 is actually easier to OC as it produces less heat, of course it doesn't compare to the 2x480 but most of us don't have $1K to dedicate to graphics cards... 2x460 is still pretty good for only $230 per card.

Anyway, the assholes at UPS shipped the second card really late, so I will test 2x460 when I get out of work.

I'm kind of worried that I wont be able to OC them much in SLI, the one I ordered pushes air down instead of having an exhaust to outside the case, so I bet card #2 is going to get considerably hotter than #1, as the #1 will be pushing all the head down on it, but I hope to get atleast to 800mhz with them.

My case has mounting grid for an extra fan I could put and aim right around the middle of both cards, if I put a fan there should I have it as intake or exhaust... I think intake will fuck with airflow of my case, exhaust wouldnt do much though...

I have an evga 460 that exhausts the hot air out the back and it runs 15c hotter than my msi 460 did. What flavor 460s did you order?

Gigabyte, the problem is the card in the bottom getting hit by top's exhaust, if it was just 1 card it wouldn't be a problem. Anyway, I just put everything back in (got a corsair 850w also) and am downloading drivers, I'll see how the temps fare soon.

BTW whats up with these assholes not including SLI adapters, I thought that was common practice? Thankfully I kept my mobo's case and found an SLI link there.

    Edit:

Ok, so far I just went off what someone else with these cards in SLI said to try which was 850mhz core and 2000 mem, on idle the bottom card is 4 degrees higher than the lower card, that's idle... will monitor at loads, load is like 82c/85c so I guess it's not so bad, my 5850 OC'd got up to high 90's C

Edit: It crashed at 850mhz, lowered it back to 800mhz and it's fine, don't have time to play with it more, but I figure I can get 825.

    Edit:

    Results

    Are your 460s 768mb or 1gb.

    I might be getting 2x 768mb tomorrow...

New ATI 10.8 drivers out today,
they also released a Crossfire profile for FFXIV in the new profiles. So, jump over to AMD's website and give your benchmark a go with official crossfire supported (haven't been able to do this yet myself as I am at work). I doubt that it will work on the beta, but one can always hope.

    Someone post results soon so I can figure out if I want to replace my SSD or get another 5870 to xfire. ^^;

Was just about to post this. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but the game looks significantly sharper with the new drivers.
