Well TBF I know I can run the Alpha/benchmark decently, but yes you are right I do need to upgrade at some point. its just not that important at the moment.

As for the Nvidia vs ATI goes, Nvidia wins it for me simply because of the posibility of 3D.

I agree that the benchmark fairly duplicated what I experience in the alpha (better, considering the first days of the alpha) and maybe it is just the scale, but it makes me wonder what they'll be throwing into the mix at retail.

For all the people saying "I can run the alpha fine, but my score says I will have problems", did you think that maybe the 'default' settings they are talking about are more demanding than the alpha? Maybe the alpha is closer to what it run like with everything possible turned off/down? In such a case, their statements would be correct. Your choosing to play at lower settings doesn't mean their scale is wrong.

edit: With this talk of 3D stuff though, I'm tempted to consider nvidia for a card a little more. I wasn't initially looking at them due to generally having consistently better luck with ati cards, but maybe they'll get another chance.

Erm. The Alpha is locked at 30 FPS. The benchmark isn't locked at all. If you aren't noticing a difference then you are not a good test case.

Alpha is 720p and most people are testing 1080p... that's why its saying you wont be able to run the game very well... at 1080p.

Anybody think that the scales of performance are for the low settings instead of the high settings? Would make much more sense.

5970 is a dual GPU card. The benchmark only uses one GPU.

That single GPU is weaker than a 5870.

Then the final result with both GPU working should be higher right?

I hope then that XIV will be able to run dual GPU lol...

    Trying lower setting now!

And thats why I tend to stay away from multiple GPU configurations.. Lack of support for it. :/

Alpha is locked at 30fps and 1280x720.

    Benchmark is not.

What is hard to understand about this?

Well the 5970 is 2 underclocked 5870 GPU's so they could meet ATX specifications of 300w or less on a PCIe lane. Lot's of people overclock their 5970 to 5870 speeds so it's identical to having 2x5870s.

I'm sure it will support multi-gpu's in retail as I believe it being in windowed mode makes crossfire/sli/dual-gpu not work
