Has it really not occurred to anyone else that SE put a FPS limit in towns/camps? I dunno why they would do this, but that is the effect we get. You stand at the edge of camp and look at the crystal, fps drop. Turn 180*, full usage. If you take the north entrance into uldah and head down the outer corridor towards the steps that go inside, if you look up the steps, 21fps and 50% or something gpu. Look at the wall behind you (which has the desert on the other side), 99% gpu.

FPS is constant 38 16 in crowded areas

    Nvidia 8800M GTS
1.83 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

just upgraded to Intel t9300 and fps is now 50 FPS
35 in crowded... plays fine still and not on low texture settings

    FX 6860 GATEWAY.
Your system got a poor score, and it runs ok at settings lower than the benchmark? BREAKING NEWS.

I got the same results as you actually on my laptop. But it was only an 8600M so I had to kill extended drawing as well. All of which is not possible in the bench.

I wouldn't be too worried, honestly the game is running pretty great so long as AO and DOF are off. Coupled with the ultra GPU usage there's just some serious optimization failure going on in SE's camp, and probably some stuff nvidia could do as well.

Most of this weirdness falls into SE's lap though I'm sure, given the way performance flipflopped with every beta phase.

Within a year or two it should be running reasonably well. Right?!

I can run @ 1920x1080 with most settings maxed except DoF and AO off. The AA is on 2x. Out in the wide open areas fighting my FPS is capped at the 60 FPS but in town in ranges anywhere from 20-30 FPS. But for me my CPU load is at 90%+ all the time but my GPU load rarely goes over 50%. The extra cores and considerable more muscle will lower your cpu usage substantially. Sounds like your fps is capped regardless, so you probably won't see a change in the gpu usage. I'm curious how you manage capped fps at only 50% usage on a 470. Mine was sitting full most of the time and I don't think I made it capped fps. I do have DoF on, I thought it didn't seem to make a big dent in fps but maybe I should recheck that.

Even if this is intentional. the performance drop-off is pretty ridiculous. It really shouldn't be that bad (like in my case.) It could be part design, and part not being fully optimized for certain hardware.

FFXIV beta sucks, Core i7 980X @ 4.5Ghz, 2 HD5970 4GB each @ 1920 X 1200 and the computer still can't handle Double Buffer Size in crowded areas, the FPS drop is insane.

Maybe I should turn them off when I go home and see if there's a difference...

    Okay so

The game is on the disc at this point

So how much can they optimize this thing further? There are some things they can't alter at this point anymore isn't there?

I mean SE isn't known for perfectly optimized games or anything which is np but y'know, in town I get this weird choppiness and out in the field too almost regardless of what settings I use and the game still fries my graphics card almost anywhere.

    wtb 60fps

Takes some time to get all the discs prepared for 22nd y'know?

Hell if I know anything about the subject, just would make sense.

The disc doesn't matter, they could have you download an entirely new game as "an update". And if you wtb 60fps, change settings lower and/or buy better parts. I doubt it will "get better", but that would be nice, wouldn't it?

Well yeah but it's choppy regardless of my settings lol :/

Yep, we are fucked up, the first step was DX9 as render, now lack of upscaling and Multi GPU Support, that's why PC gamers prefer crappy games like Call of Duty Modern Bullshit 2 over Square-Enix MMORPGs as their Multiplayer experience.

I guess it's not a limit and really is just crappy in the game. Turned settings down and got more fps in-town, but not capped on usage. SE, engines that make no damn sense.

I haven't been keeping up with these threads much lately, don't flame me.

Have they said anything about working on SLI/Crossfire working in the game yet? Are they going to ever have it available?

Well I know first hand that it is not working right now for ATI cards. However with the scoring system in the benchmarks im sure within the next couple of months CF/SLI will be enables after they work out the bugs. I don't mind the games performance right now. I mean I would love to use both of my cards (using HD 5970) but I do not have that bad of performance with the game as is. In the field (res at 1920X1080) I get 60 FPS for the most part and in towns and crystals I see about 35-50 FPS. This game will most likely be exactly like its predecessor in that when entering towns and crowded areas the FPS will drop quite a bit. The only reason why it looks so much worse for this game is that now FFXIV runs at a max of 60 FPS and FFXI ran at 30 FPS. So going from a nice smooth 60 FPS to 35 in towns etc is bound to happen no matter what gear your running with. But heres hoping for CF/SLI support in the very near future

You should. Kills 30% of my fps. I really hope they can optimize it better, cause it's a very nice looking effect.

Apart from DoF and AO, the game performs quite nicely. In the field. Towns are just ridiculous. It's clearly not a graphics processing issue since stuff like DoF, AA and resolution make very little to no difference at all in towns. It's either a huge CPU bottleneck or some very buggy code.

Has anyone with a moderate CPU but beastly GPU managed to get a solid 30+ FPS in towns? And vice versa?

with a Q6600, I never have 30 fps in cities, usually 15-20... (but my 6600 probably is not moderate now, is getting a little old).
This sucks, or I have a shitty fps (Limsa) or I have constant 60 fps but with huge screen tearing (Thanalan).
Cant wait to test if my new Phenom II 955 (OCed) can handle shit better

Both Crossfire and SLI ARE working. Several people have confirmed CF and I am taking their word for it. I am confirming SLI (2x 480 on my system).
However, you have to fix a mistake made by Nvidia (they think FFXIV is named ffxivwin.exe when it is actually named ffxivgame.exe) soon as you fix this your SLI will work.
