Should I be concerned that my Sapphire 5870 Vapor-X card is hitting 77-78* celcius in FF14? These cards are touted as being way more energy efficient and that they have lower temps than Nvidia cards but it doesn't seem like it runs as cool as I was expecting. I have a thermaltake case with typical air cooling. Rear exhaust fan, intake fans, and a 200mm window case fan. Just making sure I'm not going to end up frying this bitch come release time.

I think that those temps are OK to run at. I know I shoot for below 80*C with my 5970. I will say that when I run my 5970 with one core at 900core/1200memory i get 60-65*C max with my single GPU running at 99%

77-78c on the 5870 is my worry zone. I have a 5870 with a heatsink and two fans on it at 900/1200 and will hit 70-75 in cities and outside but the moment the weather effects kick in (most notably dust storms and dark weather) my temps will jump to 77-78c. Whenever I hit 80c I have about 1-3min before the gpu fails and the game crashes to desktop. My FPS never takes a hit though.

This is at 1920x1200 (full screen but windowed) with DoF on, AO off, textures high/highest, 4x AA and shadows set to highest.

On 720 my GPU sits in the 60-67c temp range with everything set to highest, 8x AA, and DoF & AO on.

I just want to say that AO for ATI cards isn't working. It just puts a slight shadow across half (diagnally, right side) of my screen.

I was wondering if you have been able to utilize both cards with the 5970? When I have both enabled the game performs worse then with one card running.

Attention GTX460 users, if you've been afraid to use AA in fear of losing FPS, don't be. I just found out that my FPS goes up, yes UP, when I change my settings from no AA at all, to 16xQ CSAA. Staring at the same spot in adventurers guild with many PCs and few NPCs, my FPS was about 21-23 with no AA on, when I put max AA on my FPS rose by about 5-6 points.. Now the game engine confuses me even more.

So I recommend that you guys experiment with different AA settings and how it affects your fps, I was surprised as hell when I tried it myself after one other GTX460 user said that he's getting better results with max AA.

Got a 955, now im reinstalling all the patchs and stuff, and trying to make my RAM work properly (it runs at higher timings than the recomended from the manufacter but if I up them my system refuses to boot).

EDIT: Guru3D leaked the new nvidia drivers. Some people are trying them and seems like theres a bit of a better performance with them

It's true. I gained 1-2 fps in ww guild in gridania. 31>33 by going from no AA to 16xQ CSAA. I had 99% gpu usage with either setting.
1280x960 res, double buffer(in order to make it gpu bottlenecked), fullscreen dof/ao off, shadows highest text res/filtering highest

Note it had no effect when I was cpu limited. I normally run 1600x1200 window buffer and my gpu usage with no AA would be 45%, turning on 16xQ CSAA bumped gpu usage up to 54%(what happened to AA giving 99% gpu usage?) but had no effect on FPS. So weird that it increases FPS then when you are gpu bottlenecked, wtf.

You mean 259.47 or something even more new? O.o I got those a couple of days ago, I heard people did say it is an improvement, didn't notice much myself (though I'm my PC is just old and I'm on 8800GTS 320MB lol).

The GTX460s are hungry for work. I outlined that in my review of the 460 a couple days ago that FPS goes up on higher settings (AO, DoF, and Buffer Size: Double excluded). They are amazing cards; a pair of them would be just about perfect for FFXIV. I'm very much considering switching to a pair of them over my single 5870 until I can see how the next generation of ATI cards performs once they hit retail in November (assuming they make their date).

I don't think that has anything to do with the 460, it just means FFXIV runs like shit. I've never heard of a game that when you go from max AA to no AA you get worse performance.

Probably won't have to. ATI doesn't have that problem apparently, seems it's another driver issue with nvidia. SSD or switching to ATI are current fixes lol, ridiculous.

Yeah, the clocks are 900 / 1200. To be fair, I was actually at 950/1200 when I hit 80c and crashed (dusty weather running from Ul'dah to the docks). Plus, it was like 80f in my apartment that day. I've since took it back to its "stock" (still OC) clocks of 900 / 1200.

Your post worried me a little that my temps might be abnormal so I rechecked some buyer reviews and this specific card, at least, runs approx. 75c at full load, which fits my experience with it so far. Mine being a few centigrade higher, but I think I can put that to FFXIV being a bitch, slightly poor airflow through the case, or the card's fan speeds not being high enough (I think they're at 60% constant).

I am planning on grabbing second of these cards to xfire, and I am hoping that does lessen the load a little bit so they run at 60c like it does in 720p.

If you are nvidia please do not hack it with the butcher job above, Nvidia already has a profile just correct the mistake (they named the exe in the profile ffxivwin.exe but it should be ffxivgame.exe).

Ya but changing it to Crysis settings gives better performance. It was tested both ways
