Seeing that 5000+ number, is it my CPU holding me back number wise? The most I can get is 2900~ with my 470 now.. but with a quad core 2.67Ghz CPU.

And if it is, can you replace CPUs? Got my comp. from dell a year ago.. no clue if you can replace it or not with computers you don't make yourself :-/

I see no reason why you couldnt replace the CPU. A friend completely overhauled his dell piece by piece over the course of a couple of years so I'm assuming you can.

Unless you're like me and you get into an endless loop, well I want to replace my CPU, well fuck the CPU I want to use isnt supported by my MOBO so buy a new MOBO, oh FML my ram is still DDR2 this calls for DDR3 so you end up spending like 700 dollars more than you originally intended too.

Hmm, good point on the endless loop of purchases. I don't mind spending 500+ bucks on a new CPU but I would have NO clue what my MOBO is or what it could handle. >_> Here's to hoping FF:XIV works just fine (or good enough) until a year or two from now when I buy a new comp.

Edit: Looking at old benchmark SSs .. why did my single ATI 4870 (Windows Vista OS) out-perform my new 470 (Winows 7 OS)? Ugh, this is all so confusing.

Id suggest to OC your CPU, but if its a comp-in-a-box type thing then its harder to do that stuff since they usually lock the bios. If you have an i5/7 then OC'ing is extremely simple. its all based around the BCLK (i think) that you can directly change in the bios. But this also depends on your current heatsink and how good it is.
But ya, if ur getting 2700 on high w/ a 470 then its definitely ur CPU.

Here is a helpful hint, just in general: most comp stuff is VERY simple. Its all plug in and play, very little setup. If you need to replace your mobo the most important thing is to get a anti-shock band (safer then w/o) and making sure you do everything on a non-static surface (que the cardboard box lol). Otherwise your basically just connecting everything and the CPU can only go in one way.

    @Jak:
    Celeras' 470 is heavily overclocked.

I have a 2.67 Q9400 quad core.. I think that's what my CPU is, and I dunno. Everyone says to change the FSB(I think is acronyms) from 333 to whatever until the CPU is unstable at which point I up the voltage. Well, mine says 1333 and even if I change it to 1334 my whole comp shuts down. Disabled what I was suppose to, etc. but yah.

Anyways, sorry this isn't tech thread.. so I'll shut up. I'll work with what I have, lol.

Edit: my 470 is overclocked to the point that I'm single digits within getting artifacts in FF:XIV.

    doesn't matter, 2900 is very low. I got higher w/ my stock i7 965 (@3.3) and a geforce 285.

    @ Jak
your changing the wrong variables. mhz is usually stock at 133 (i think). sounds like your changing the ram. Im not familiar w/ your type of CPU. but just google "How to OC a Q9400" something along those lines and it should help you out. I know i7's are a joke to OC though

GTX 260s were(maybe still are?) outperforming GTX 460s in the bench, I wouldn't think it strange that your 285 could be ahead of a stock 470.

I upgraded to 2 480 SC, but I was getting about 3000-3100 (i think) w/ the 285. Granted I have a better cpu, but high settings should be mainly gpu dependent. Either way, something isn't adding up & I wouldn't think its the 470. There is for sure some bottleneck.. maybe the psu/ram?
@jak: what's ur psu wattage? It may be a big factor since 400 series require MUCH more power then ur old gpu

It's set on MSI Afterburn to an automatic 1000 (which I assume is 1.000).

I jacked it up to 1.087 like a guide says I found (to push my system until I see artifacts) and upped my numbers to 790 (the one that shares with shader numbers) and the other number to 2000. Redid benchmark and it's about 5% or less better than before.. I didn't finish the benchmark because I guess I had too much voltage (comp. just completely shut off) but it would have been around 2950~ at the end which still isn't good.

Is that what you're talking about wattage wise though? Oh, and my entire systems wattage I don't remember but I can find out.. I have it in an e-mail (was at home, now back at work). Let me look around.

Edit: dunno what type of ram I have specifically but it's 8 gigs worth.

    Edit#2: 750W PSU

That's really strange. I was getting better scores than that on my old dual core with my gtx 460.

Yah. I've felt from day one that something wasn't right with something. I knew I shouldn't be getting the same (and lower in some cases) score compared to my old GPU.

When I get home I'll try to find as much specs as I can.. and maybe figure something out. :-/

Catalyst 10.9 is out and I'm happy to see in the release notes

"Negative CrossFire™ scaling on "Final Fantasy-XIV" no longer occurs"

    Thank the lord Jesus

I don't think it actually does anything.

Would my pre-built Dell PC not automatically let me change my FSB numbers in BIOS? I was watching some youtube vids and everyone is using MB Intelligent Tweaker which very specifically shows all the numbers I need to change.. and I know for a fact I have not seen this program in my BIOS. Is there some way of downloading it to make it work in my BIOS or unlock my BIOS?

Kat what are your high number and low numbers like w/2x 480's?

Woot, not too shabby for a 470. Gotta love nVidia drivers.. especially when you look at the leaderboard for my score when this benchmark was released and realize I've gone up nearly 1000 points on optimization alone :D
Well done man this is killer for the 470 i am sure there arent many 480's making that number on high!!

Your setup should recive a better score then that i am thinking ..... on high w/ 1 gtx480 @3.5ghz i am over 5100 on the bench

This is what my buddy scored a week or so ago on his gtx260 with a tiny OC on low:

Funny how optimization can make all the difference for people that know what they are doing and people that are fly by wire on this
