The leader board is kind of pointless other than a pissing contest now, it would have been nice to leave all the people on the list so people could have a quick reference where about their system may land.

My intention is not to start contests, merely to show people how to improve their performance for the bench marks without spending money. Granted, some people will need it regardless, and it won't help nVidia users that much since the names/settings are different between the cards, but a lot of people already have a good baseline - they're just not dialed in as they should be to deliver both performance and quality. I'm satisfied with my rig and I think it will suit me just fine for the game, but I'm waiting with everyone else to see actual performance since I'm not one of the testers. Especially once I get my hands dirty and start doing some registry fun to squeeze out performance. I'll always be a PC fan over game systems because I like being able to tinker with my shit and exploit it's power to the maximum extents possible.



Edit: I definitely feel kinda bad about posting those initial results now that I've been able to run a lot more tests. Don't know why they're so low. Once again demonstrating the proof of concept of the statement 'Better to be right than to be first.'

yes i am, and yes its a piece of shit. got it in late 2007. even on minimum settings, i can only get ~10-12fps on FFXI, in normal congestion areas.

basically did this just for shits and giggles. oh yea, that was running the benchmark on LOW

Unless you're in a hurry, wait 4-5 months before getting it. Chance to score a better deal near release is higher since price constantly drop every couple of months. As for what to get, it's always a matter of how much money you're willing to drop on it. Something that cost around 1k on neweggs should be able to run it very well, but until we see every graphical options (without 3d on a single screen), it's hard to say.

My PC is like 3 years old. Benchmark went pretty smooth, no real fps lag or something, just a few little slow downs trough HIGH Resolution.

I got 2600 on low, but I'm lagging a lot in the alpha (20fps with 1-2sec freeze pretty often). It should be fine with lowered graphic but it won't run as smootly as this benchmark for sure.

FFXI worked fine for me with window 7. If there is issue, I'm sure there is way around it.

Oddly enough i ran this on low and high, and I actually got a better score on high settings.

Low was 845
High was 1007

Build is P4 3.0 Ghz
GTS250 1GB
2GB RAM

I personally have played alpha and it's definitely playable at this point with my setup. I did have to upgrade the video card to play it though. Previously used 6600 GT 512MB. So we'll see in the future once beta is out if it continues to still be playable.

I disabled it just for the application. Right click the exe -> properties -> compatability -> check disable desktop composition (and themes if you want)

I did it for both exes but it probably doesn't matter if you only do one of them.
