Yes, it involves downloading a modified d3d9.dll and placing it in your benchmark data folder and renaming the FFXivWinBenchmark executable. I got the executable part right in a post earlier in this thread and then someone else figured out the .dll part but I'm not a big fan of sketchy .dll hacks. I'm sure someone else can provide the link.

Edit: and the guy going over 10k on the high res benchmark actually had a pair of 5970s in Crossfire.

would suck if ffxiv won't support dual/quad crossfire setup though in the end... won't know though since no one that does SE interviews ever ask that question ;/

So thats a nice benchmark and everything, but I think he played with the dats . He changes races 3 times during the video. So i wouldn't be suprized if he changed other things to get the score as well (like the NVIDIA logo was changed to an Intel Inside logo). It DOES seem like the monitor is going along with the scenery but It could have been messed with as well, we will never know. But I found it quite strange that the models kept changing, especially the Rogayden at the end looked like he had a full mask and gear, not the beginner type...

EDIT: Well I might have firgured out the race thing on my own, if you choose random, does it switch out every cutscene? that might explain, but the rest is kinda weird.

Is crossfire where you get two video cards working together? Do they have to be the same ones, or could you get like... an ATI 5870 and a 5570 (making up the numbers, I think, but you get the point).

Basically, any reason to hang onto an old graphics card and stick it in a new PC?

Yes, crossfire is where you have two cards working together (there are multiple methods of rendering). Some cards work with other series, here's a pic from ATIs site:

Many Nvidia users keep last generation cards because of the features exclusive to Nvidia. PhysX is the more notable one. But there are work arounds where you can mix and match ATI and Nvidia GPUs if you wish. If you're lazy, get a Lucid Hydra supported motherboard.

K so i am thinking of grabbing my GTX 480 in about 2 weeks and running it with my 260 scc as dedicated Phys-X now my question to you all is will my Ultra LSP 750w PSU be enough to handle both cards ....i am think it might be best that i upgrade to 1000w PSU + but dunno if i am just wasting money, check my sig for other components. I will be also getting a Corsair H50 water block kit to O/C my setup to 4.0ghz and probably gonna just pick up 64mb SSD for my OS + FFXIV and then have my 1TB for everything else.


I understand i dont need all this for FFXIV, so you dont need to tell me about how i dont need to upgrade i really just want to build a dream RIG for myself and so am wondering, TY for your input.

I've got my H50 coming in soon (I hope), and from the reviews I've seen, making a push/pull setup with two good fans greatly increases performance of the cooler.
