I'd like to make a request for the unofficial beta benchmark. Can someone please use their technomagic to compare how the 5870 and the gtx 470 will run ffxiv? My impression is that the gtx 470 seems to do a little bit better with high settings at 1080p, compared to the 5870 (also, the 470 is cheaper). The thing is, the 5870 mostly got significantly better scores on the questionable official benchmark, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

I can tell you right now a 470 wont preform as well as a 5870. The GTX 470 was made and priced to compete with the 5850, while the GTX 480 was made to compete with the 5870.

And I know 900 isn't impressive but it's good enough to render the cut scenes without lag. Unless I get a beta invite I won't be able to test out the game play. Regardless a computer upgrade will most likely be underway when 14 releases and I see hands on how my system can handle it.

Well we all have different levels of acceptance on framerate, but I just ran it on a machine that got 908 on the low setting, and it was herky jerky the whole way to me. That was like whitegate AH speed. I don't think I would want to play the entire game that way.

Interesting thing I noted on that same benchmark, this run was on the same system I ran 2300/3200, the only change was I pulled the 4870 and put an 8600GT in (and a different hard drive). I also saw afterburner reported 0% gpu usage the entire time. I tried looking on wikipedia for some stats on the 8000 series but didn't see any reason why it wouldn't support any of the required software in directx. But I guess there is some key part not found on those, or it just straight up ignores older cards, which I kinda doubt.

5870 runs most things better at stock, 470 runs most things better once OC'd. It's not really worth going crazy analyzing the differences, they're both solid and will run it great.

Think it would be a better idea to make just make a new thread about the beta performance. The boards will probably get a lot more people browsing through tomorrow and having to wade through over 1000posts is a nuisance.

Ill update the title to reflect beta performance when I update the OP. I haven't yet because its in the back of my head that beta will be capped at 30fps like alpha was (the client still is). And obviously that would make testing pointless.

Not bad for no overclocking whatsoever.

I am new to upgrading a pc and don't want to wait til spring '11 for the ps3 release. With that said I am looking for some advice. I got my pc about 2 yrs ago and I know it's in dire need of tweaking- helpful advice greatly appreciated.

I have plenty of HD space
will upgrade to windows 7 64 bit

do you think I can run xiv in the mid category? Not looking for superb results but rather something that runs it clean and well.

Just wait a bit more. Beta starts hours from now, and hopefully we get a clearer picture on how the final product will run.

Probably on the mid settings but on a lower resolution. Definitely not at 1920x1080.

Ima get a 295 x2 run going next week sometime.

im running 295 x2 i7 and 6gigs of ram and im getting shitty frames maybe 8-10 fps i think its microstutter

I have the G73JH-A3 laptop from Asus and i still can't run the benchmark. I've done everything possible. does anyone have this same model and is able to run this benchmark?

Upon patching and trying to join a server (just to get the error message), the clients FPS cap increased from 30 to 60.

Sounds about right. You have a low High Res score most likely due to your Cards. I have a very similar setup except the fact that I have a slower CPU with a Core 2 Duo @2.13 Ghz, but I have a ATI Radeon HD 4870. My scores were 1928 and 2466, High and Low res respectively. I'm not sure if these cards were optimized for 1920x1080 resolution and performance so the fact that I have a more powerful card may explain my better high resolution score. However, the fact that you have two of them in Crossfire would easily boost performance in the lower resolution.

So only suggestion I can give is updating your GPU if your not satisfied, but I don't know how much of a boost that would give you.

Dont update anything, you have a dual GPU card which isnt currently working in the benchmark. Wait until crossfire/dual GPu drivers for the game are released. You'll be fine.
