    I got a 599 on the benchmark.

The game was a bit slow and laggy, with a floaty cursor. Not that bad except in really congested areas. Though, I don't know how much of that is due to my comp being bad or the server being congested.

Wish I could turn down the textures.

5000 on benchmark, fps cap about everywhere (I actually noticed the 25 fps lock when using AO or w/e) with everything turned on/maxed

1024x768 (give me 100 fps god damn or I'm gonna have to buy a LCD.)

I have a 5870, scored almost 5000 on the HQ score, and 6000 on the LQ score.

The game ran like shit for me. It would run smooth, then constantly lag for 5 seconds, then run smooth, etc. The same thing happened on my other PC that scored around 3000 HQ. SE really needs to work on the client.

What Izzy said. I tried it on both Multisample at 8 and 2. AO and DoF were both on. The game would go smooth then out of nowhere hickup and drop to like 5 FPS then shoot back again. Was very weird. Never noticed this happening in Alpha.

So I am curious. Do you think FFXIV is ever going to upgrade their engine to take advantage of DirectX 10 or 11? I know World of Warcraft uses strictly DirectX 9 like FFXI and has no future plans to ever use DirectX 10 or 11. I actually tried installing the original discs tonight to jump back in for a few months and it cried at me. Supposedly Program Files/Program Files(x86) under Windows 7 is protected. I installed the whole 4GB off of the original discs. It asked me if I wanted to move it to public/WOW etc I said yes. Then it started downloading the entire game from Blizzard all 4gbs even though WoW was just installed... seriously? /facepalm

So yeah, DirectX 10/11? Think we'll see it in FFXIV? Otherwise it's almost like the latest graphics cards are underused.

I'm gonna go with that, really didn't have any stuttering this time.

Also Geth, FFXI doesn't even use DX9, it was a DX7 game and it was upgraded to DX8 for windowed mode or some shit.

Not sure if we'll ever see DX10 in 14, be cool if they do but it's SE we're talking about =(

Try a defrag. I'm not sure what FFXIV's files are like but the standard defrag may miss large files depending on how many fragments. If they are a bunch of small files like in XI, then a defrag should do wonders. If not, I'm going to blame it on background programs. Grab autoruns and start removing useless stuff.

Got ~2500 on HIGH during the bench. I can run FFXIV Beta fine with everything maxed @ 1080p. Constant 30 fps during battles, only bitch area is the main city, I stuttered every 3-5 secs.

Dude, I installed Windows 7 on this less than 24 hours ago lol.

It's the client, not my PC.

    :(

I got my PC stock 3 years ago and it ran ffxi great... and now im getting a 250 score.

PC Specs: 3gb ddr2 memory, ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro(Yeah, but was a PC for school so yeah), Intel core 2 duo.

Would you guys advise towards getting a new PC altogether or just getting a new graphics card?

Looking for some honest advice here.
I updated my graphics card and ram recently, hoping that I could get decent performance out of the beta client to no avail.

    My current system is such:

Is it worth trying to upgrade my GPU anymore, or is my CPU bottlenecking things too much to even make it worth bothering with? Unfortunately my motherboard is the old 939 pin style, which makes the CPU difficult to upgrade because that pin style is expensive and obsolete/no longer made.

    Update all drivers
check out black viper's guide: http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htm
then use autoruns to remove useless startup items: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb963902.aspx
    then a full degfrag

You definitly need a new CPU (which means a new motherboard/RAM as well), but the GPU you can probably keep for some time.

@HD 2400 Pro: That is what I had and I demand that you upgrade. The Benchmark Program lags like no tomorrow and does not run smoothly at all therefore you won't be able to play the game smoothly. I upgraded to the ATI 5770 1GB because it has one 6-pin power connector that is needed only. Any higher than that you have to make sure your PSU has more connectors, ie the 5830.

Hard drive thrashing: Is it an Intel chipset? I know whenever i re-install on my computer I always install the Intel Chipset and the Intel Matrix Manager (now called Rapid Storage something). If I don't my 7 installation hangs and acts weird, pausing etc.

Well you are correct, says on the official site that DX8.1 came on the installation disc for Play Online and Final Fantasy XI. Don't know how I missed that, but I have always assumed it was DX 9. I guess Final Fantasy XIV will be what SE wanted in the first place for Final Fantasy XI however it was designed for the Playstation 2 in mind and then ported to Windows later.

Regardles, it is still crazy how great these images are just running off of DX 9.0c. It almost makes me wonder if the DX 10/11 games that were made were done because Microsoft paid the game developers big money to do it so it would promote everyone upgrading into Vista and 7.

Though 7 is awesome but I wonder what they are using to design the game with. I would make a decent wager they are using Windows XP as the base system. After all 7 is pretty much XP + Vista eye candy. Think I'm going to dual-boot XP for WoW. Too many installation woes. By the way those with Windows 7, Internet TV on Media Center is godly. So many seasons of old and new shows on it now that you can watch with very few commercials. <3 it. Add Netflix and you are in heaven.

Isn't that needed to run in AHCI mode and use features such as NCQ?
