Why don't we wait until the game comes out/is more optimized for things before running out to buy parts right away? Honestly, I think some of the computer companies out there are probably paying Squeenix a little for how many more customers they are getting as of late.
I highly doubt they're that sophisticated. Considering it took SE about 5 years to properly display the Utsusemi icons on the GUI for FFXI, I doubt they're going to make drastic changes for optimization, they move like slugs. IMO If anything they'll make the game more resource hogging as time goes on.
Look at areas like Besieged and Aht Urhgan White Gate. I had old PC that could play FFXI fine until they introduced TOAU, which all but crashed my old PC. I don't hold out much hope for those of us with budget or older technology PCs. Probably better to look into playing on a PS3.
Yeah.. the UI's one thing, but we're talking about clients working on PCs. Again, this is just beta, so give it some time so they can work on things. And don't judge the benchmark too seriously. It's just to give you a ballpark on how your system may handle.
Kain, I know how to work a computer. It is none of that. Both PC's in my house both have the exact same problem. One is a Windows installation from 24 hours ago, the other has been running perfectly fine for the past 3 years. Other people are having the same problem, it's obviously a client issue.
Yeah, gonna agree with lolMjollnir. It's probably client side, and not computer side, especially with that build.
Also, the benchmark does not have this problem.
I apologize but I'm kinda rambling, so feel free to ignore if you wish.
Here's the main reason I'm concerned:
__________________________________________________ ________________________
JeuxOnLine: The minimum prerequisite that appears on pre-orders are very different from those required for alpha testing, but they are insufficient to achieve a correct score at Benchmark. How can you explain such a drop of prerequisites?
Tanaka: Because it is a MMORPG , we have maximized the quality of the game so that players benefit long term. Over time, I'm sure you can have a high score but Benchmark is perhaps not yet, at present, of equipment to obtain the maximum scores in Benchmark, it has been somehow it on purpose. But because technology evolves rapidly, you're in the very near future able to reach a high score with an average computer.

I understand this as, they are looking to make the game more tough on older PCs and not easier.
I know I'm griping possibly out of line and that theoretically these things will be fixed, but my PC does exceed the requirements given by SE and the lag on the beta is unspeakably awful. Also, this PS runs FFXI like a dream, never a lag or slowdown.
It just doesn't make sense to me why there is such a seemingly huge gap between the two games in system requirements. You'd think they'd want to retain their customers by keeping the specs somewhat similar. Especially because we've been putting money into their pockets for years now.
And what does a UI update have to do with optimization? Attention to detail and common sense, that's what. I don't view that as an update, I view it as a fix that should have happened a very long time ago. I simply see it as a example of the way SE does things.
In short I'm skeptical that SE is actually going to do a fix for slower computers because faster computers do run the beta fine.
I'd rephrase that as I don't think it's actually trolling, and trollin's sorta against the rules, so use another word?
but yeah, I see your point somewhat, but i doubt they'll let the game continue to lag out for the majority of people who try it out. That's what Alphas/Betas are for.
You mean lurking. You usually just read and don't contribute except rarely. That's lurking.
As for the specs, SE wants to appeal to the people who have money. They mostly want to appeal to people who can spend a lot of it. That's what the gaming industry has always done with few exceptions. FFXIV HAS to have a relatively high minimum to appeal to serious gamers who have the money to spend on the high end systems their games require. These games require high specs in the first place to be better than the last generation.
Long story short: WoW, even at the current version, couldn't be made now and be competitive (well, AS competitive).
Not necessarily true, Starcraft II Beta minimum and recommended specs http://us.blizzard.com/support/artic...rticleId=26242 are low compared to FFXIV.
Having said that, they are different classes of games, RTS and a 3D MMO will have different specs because the games do different things, but you'd think that Blizzard would be following that same model SE is. Pushing people to upgrade rather than allow their game to be ran on hardware at least five years old. Maybe it falls in as an exception though because the first Starcraft game is so old.
Yeah, for sure, and it is big due to the different classes of games.
Hey I need a new pc to play ffxiv because my laptop only got ~500
I would really like to play on a laptop again because i dont want to buy a monitor for a other pc and i just like laptops more then other pc >.<
I found 2 laptops which i could get for a cheap price can you guys tell me what you think about these? if i could run ffxiv "normal" on these i dont want the highes settings i just want to play the game without lag
Laptop 1: "Netebook R530-Nion"
Intel core i3-330M 2x 2,13Ghz
4GB
Nvidia Geforce 310m 512MB
Laptop 2: "Notebook Aspire 5741G-434G32Mn"
Intel Core i5-430M 2,53Ghz "Turbo Boost to 2,53"
4GB DDR3
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
What do you think? are they good enough to run ffxiv on low settings without lag?
The laptop i use atm is Aspire 7530G
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core QL60 1,9GHz
4GB
"up to 1279MB Nvidia Geforce 9400m TurboCache with Nivida Hybrid Sli (idk what that up to 1,2k means it only has 256MB)
i got like 400~500 on low ;_;
Both of those video cards seem to be way below the minimum required, for the beta at least. If you want to determine, at least to some extent, how good a laptop graphics card is, try looking it up on this chart.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...80,2621-6.html
If your card isn't on the chart, search for benchmarks and see how it compares to other cards on the chart. It would probably be best to at least meet the minimum requirements for the beta anyway. And keep in mind that laptop video cards are different from desktop video cards.
Hey guys, first time here, found the thread about the benchmark and thought I'd contribute my low score...
and because I can't post links yet:
Specs
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
i7 920 @ 2.7
Dual ATI 4670s
Score: 1815 (low)
I suppose my dual 4670s are a little dated... looking at what you guys have it seems a 4870 would get me some decent gains. Any opinions?
hey thx for the link
i searched for some "normal" pcs and found this one :
INTEL I3 530 2x 2,93 GHz
4096 MB DDR3 1333MHz
graphic card is NVIDIA GeForce GT240 PCI-E
is that good enough for ffxiv? i looked at your page and i think its in the same line as the ffxiv min. card? but it has 1024mb and ffxiv only needs 512+?
I'm gonna get a new PC in September, but I'm not sure whether i should get a 32bit or a 64bit OS - any advice? :3
