That or just PSU failing or something, maybe. What sort of power supply?
I just ran it a third time, highest CPU temp I saw was 52c. The benchmark crashed again this time with a "stopped working" error, about 30 seconds further than it normally went.
I have an Antec Earthwatts 650w at the moment, it's been working great for the last year and a half in my previous build.Originally Posted by Akiyama
Ambient occlusion is a shading method in 3D graphics. It uses local reflection and light rays to add realism to the lighting. A similiar (but not very) method is Final Gathering. I seem to remember reading in that one nVidia magazine that one of SE's shader wizards had created a shader in Crystaltools that creates a 'fake' Final Gathering, which I'm assuming the AO is.AO is the blur effect, and DoF is a draw distance? Would that be correct?
Depth of field in camerawork means the same as it does in the game: to blur out the foreground or the background to simulate how the human eye and camera lens works.
Did the upgrade to my Rig from the GTX260 core216,stock cooler, (i7 920) to GTX480+Noctua NH U12p (went with it over the NHd14 since that things too big...lol really though i am not joking , been on the forums a bit trying to figure out my best path and here are my findings so far :D
Just installed the new cooler for the CPU so will be my first time OCing soon both CPU and GPU but for now i will show scores for stock everything.

All in all i am very happy with even stock scores but no point in not dabbling in OCing soo i will be posting as soon as the paste cures and probably Friday night i will post the new pics.
Sry about the screen size (dual monitors ) i didn't know how to resize it >.>p
*edit i dunno why it reads 2x480's i ain't that rich lol~**edit Looked through the thread for myself >.<b yyyyyaaayyy me..........., Dual monitors read as 2x cards
Have you tried running the benchmark with Afterburner off? Mine is giving me strange 'interference' when I run it in conjunction.
Did your previous build have less power usage on it's parts? I know when I built a new machine I kept my old PSU, had problems with random rebooting when starting up games. Had to buy a new PSU as the old one was cutting out. That or overheating on the CPU. Mine doesnt go above mid 30's to low 40's degrees c.
Yeah I was running a Core 2 Duo and an 8800gt in my last build. My CPU has the stock cooler on it at the moment because my old Zalman didn't fit the socket (I am in the process of finding another good one however, open to recommendations for AM3)
It's odd though because I was able to run TF2 on max settings for several hours with no problem whatsoever. I know it's not as demanding but I fully expected some kind of BSOD or error because of these other issues I'm having.
Thanks to all for the replies so far.
Weird, I just ran the benchmark again and it completed fully, 4329 score. Leaps better than my old build (2433). EDIT: Ran and completed once more on 1080 (even though my monitor doesn't support it), getting 3807. Seems like my problem might have... gone away? I don't understand.
I think I'll look into running memtest or switching my old DDR2 back in and see what the results are. I've been looking for an excuse to buy a modular PSU so this may be the time, however I'd like to be sure before doing so.
Thanks!
Just ran a test to see if it was true, and yes, it was... This time I turned off all settings that would INCREASE performance, no crossfire or catalyst AI this time. With all logic I should get a much much lower score... but instead I got roughly the same, actually a few points over my last test.
It is very clear that this benchmark is true crap and not optimized to use any advanced ATI functions.
I also found a program to force crossfire but it netted no better result.
It does seem rather worthless doesn't it.
Was anyone elses GPU running at like 0-5% during the beta? I know that there's some problems with ATI cards right now, but I was surprised as hell to see my GPU running at 0%.
I'm using 2x HD5770 in CF, and i7 [email protected]
With AO/DoF/MSx2 I was getting 12~14 fps with both cards at 85+% usage, in and out of town.
With just MSx2 I was getting 28~30fps (mainly 30fps) outside town, with 50~60% usage on GPU and average of about 10% CPU usage across all 4 cores. Game was playing very smoothly.
When in town GPU usage was ~40%, CPU usage was 20~% and i was getting 20~25fps with stuttering.
CPU was also spiking (somtimes 40+% for a sec) during loading after teleporting.
