Hey guys, I just put together a new system today, here's the specs:

Sapphire Radeon HD5850
Phenom X4 955 @ 3.2ghz
4gh DDR3 1600

I was running the test at the low setting, 720p. The first time I ran it, it crashed with a "stopped working" error where the Roegadyn with the axe starts slashing. Second time, my PC crashed with a BSOD at the same point.

GPU temps are getting to 56c max, fan speed running at 95%. I am currently doing no overclocking.

Any ideas what may cause this?

Do you know what the specific BSOD error was? (e.g. clock error, stop error, whatever). If it BSOD's again see what it says. Also, when you get a BSOD, it should "dump" the data from the crash into a file. Read the stickies in this forum: http://www.techsupportforum.com/micr...ows-7-support/
about posting your BSOD information, and someone there can probably help you identify exactly what is causing it (first I'd say make sure you update every single driver on your computer, check device manager for any "?" or "!" etc.) before buying any hardware. Then test your RAM sticks one by one.

Did the upgrade to my Rig from the GTX260 core216,stock cooler, (i7 920) to GTX480+Noctua NH U12p (went with it over the NHd14 since that things too big...lol really though i am not joking , been on the forums a bit trying to figure out my best path and here are my findings so far :D

Yeah I was running a Core 2 Duo and an 8800gt in my last build. My CPU has the stock cooler on it at the moment because my old Zalman didn't fit the socket (I am in the process of finding another good one however, open to recommendations for AM3)

Zalman sells adapter clip kits for mounting their coolers onto a variety of socket types so the screw holes match up, you can probably just buy that for like $8.
EDIT: apparently not for AMD sockets though, nevermind.

Tried to post this on the beta site hoping for answers there, but after timing out for the past hour and a half I'm giving up and coming here. As soon as I hit enter my info to log in when the screen should pop and boot the game, it formats to the window size and then just stays black and nothing loads. The game ran perfectly for me Saturday so I'm not sure wtf is going on here. Sorry if this has already been covered I search black screen and couldn't get anything specific to this. Is this a driver issue?

Bumping this, any suggestions?

My GPU was running at 60% average, with some 100% peak. (nVidia though, my friend has problems with his ATI as well. Terrible framerate even though his card is decent)

My 5870 did the same thing there would be alot of places where it would be 0% and at that point the game would start stuttering with my framerate dropping to 5-10, like when it was trying to load new character models near camps or in town. The most my card was used was 30% while my cpu would sit between 70-100%. System was a e6600 @ 3.4ghz with 4gb ram.

My slower older laptop ran it fine, minus the fact that it stayed around 20fps but the gpu was always in use. Laptop was a 1.8ghz core duo and 8800m gts. It also got a 1500 on the benchmark.


For the guy asking about the program to see gpu usage its called msi afterburner. Make sure to turn which settings you want on under settings > on screen display.

Was anyone elses GPU running at like 0-5% during the beta? I know that there's some problems with ATI cards right now, but I was surprised as hell to see my GPU running at 0%.

I noticed that too, like I would run into a group of people and my gpu usage would drop down from like 50% to 0.1%. The only time I saw it close to 99% was when i was either in a cutscene or when I was standing inside a bush.

I wanted to make the switch to ATI but I got that card for free.

Hopefully they put out a decent SLI for 14 and no micro-stuttering.

my gtx 480 was running on 40-60% on average, saw mid 60's every once and a while for a brief moment. I turned of the counter after an hr so of playing cause it's annoying since it draws ur eye that way.

And yes, SLI configurations seem to lower performance a bit, ppl get better performance turning SLI off for now.

I thought Ambient Occlusion is real time (enhanced) lightning? Can't really test it cause of the gtx 480 card, and it doesn't seem worth it w/ a 30 fps cap. Since I'm basically hard capped at 29-30fps, I don't like it being at 24-30fps since any extra dip for moments makes it noticeable. AO will be great when the cap is increased to 60fps.

And DoF isnt my style. It's nice for some things but I prefer it off because I like having the super far draw distance even if its just background art

Only the 260 was released in summer 08 apparently, and the 460 was this week or last. Your initial post was incorrect, seemingly you were confusing the 460 with the 260.

Here's a pretty good overview of the Radeon 5670 from Tom's Hardware to give you an idea of how it compares...

It is this cutthroat ~$100 environment where the Radeon HD 5670 will be forced to sink or swim at $99. Here it will have to compete against the similarly-performing $80 GeForce 9600 GT, the slightly-faster $95 GeForce 9800 GT, the clearly-superior $110 Radeon HD 4770, and the vastly more attractive $110 Radeon HD 4850 / GeForce GTS 250. Purely from a performance standpoint, it would be madness to buy the Radeon HD 5670 instead of spending a couple dollars more for the Radeon HD 4850 or GeForce GTS 250. DirectX 11 isn't much of an issue here. From what we've seen so far in our DiRT 2 results, the performance hit is too large to bear for the new Radeon HD 5670. Granted this is only one DirectX 11 title, but it certainly sets the stage.
